I am currently booked to stay at POR for 5 days in August :yay: but it would only cost £10 more to upgrade to SSR instead. I have never stayed at either of these resorts so any help would be much appreciated. Which do you prefer and why??? I'm totally torn between these two resorts!!!
Thank you!!!!:)

I've stayed at both and would definitely pick SSR over POR. Just my personal opinion though. I think everything about it is better.

I've stayed at both. I'd pick POR. Nicer atmosphere and more manageable size, IMO. I didn't think SSR had much theming.

I"ve stayed at POR and loved it. So laid back and comfortable. Beautiful grounds and theme. I also would LOVE to stay at SSR and am thinking of booking for next year to try out and see if I want to be a DVC member or not...

I've read that the counter service at SSR is not as varied and that some people found the studio rooms to feel smaller on space than a regular room at POR. POR has 2 full beds and the studios at SSR will have a queen and a pull-out couch. Don't know if that matters to you or not.

If you havne't stayed at POR, I'd receommend going there first. Go see Bob at the lounge in the evenings. Awesome entertainment.

I've stayed at both as well.

Heres what we think:

SSR

Saratoga is large, way large. If you have a car, no problem then.
Food court is good, not great but good.
Theme is okay, but we live in Upstate NY, so it's normal for us.
Pool is good
Rooms are nice. Request one close to lobby as possible.
View of Downtown Disney, if you request one.
Golf course

POR

A car here would also help, but not necessary.
Food court is the best
Theme is great.
Pool is good
Rooms are nice, but no kitchenette, only fridge.
Store is bigger than SSR

We like both eaqually. But I think based on our needs, we would pick POR again. We like the options at the food court better.

Good luck deciding!

I'm a SSR fan - big time. The grounds are beautiful, it is a very peaceful, quiet resort (at least by the rooms...the main building, food court, pool is always hoppin' ! ). The room decor is very nice too, classic/traditional--I read somewhere that they won some big interior design award when they opened. Accomodations-SSR deluxe --- POR moderate, enough said.

The food court is a bit more upgraded than at POR (which I visited in Feb). SSR has MTO flatbreads, omlets, etc. but not a huge selection. POR had more (lots more) premade stuff and is huge. (I agree with PP, SSR needs more quick food options, but what they do have is superior.) They are doing a second major pool area with some sort of food court in the Paddock area, but it won't be open in August : ( I have heard GREAT things about Turf Club restaurant, but haven't been myself.

BIG plus is proximity to Downtown Disney - Earl of Sandwich is a walk/boat ride away!!

LOTS of pool options-main, several quiet, all have hot tubs.

Each area has a bus stop which is mostly good. Yes, depending on your stop, you will have to sit through some on your way out/back. But, you will be p/u and dropped off a very easy distance from your room!! And, once you learn the system, you can use the buses to travel around the resort (Though, weather permitting, I love to walk -- it really is beautiful!).

SSR also has a very nice fs spa (believe it is described as "world-class").

POR is a fun, and looking over at the FQ area across the river is lovely...but SSR is just in another class. Cost being equal, I'd pick SSR without a second thought!

Yep, if costs are about the same, I would go for the Deluxe villa resort instead of the Moderate.

Thanks for all your responses. I love the fact that SSR is within walking distance of DTD!!! I never knew it there were hot tubs by the pools!
I'm just worried that because it's a 'deluxe' i will have much higher expectations and will end up being disappointed. I'll be expecting a whole lot more for that extra £10!!! :rotfl2:
