I'm a SSR fan - big time. The grounds are beautiful, it is a very peaceful, quiet resort (at least by the rooms...the main building, food court, pool is always hoppin' ! ). The room decor is very nice too, classic/traditional--I read somewhere that they won some big interior design award when they opened. Accomodations-SSR deluxe --- POR moderate, enough said.
The food court is a bit more upgraded than at POR (which I visited in Feb). SSR has MTO flatbreads, omlets, etc. but not a huge selection. POR had more (lots more) premade stuff and is huge. (I agree with PP, SSR needs more quick food options, but what they do have is superior.) They are doing a second major pool area with some sort of food court in the Paddock area, but it won't be open in August : ( I have heard GREAT things about Turf Club restaurant, but haven't been myself.
BIG plus is proximity to Downtown Disney - Earl of Sandwich is a walk/boat ride away!!
LOTS of pool options-main, several quiet, all have hot tubs.
Each area has a bus stop which is mostly good. Yes, depending on your stop, you will have to sit through some on your way out/back. But, you will be p/u and dropped off a very easy distance from your room!! And, once you learn the system, you can use the buses to travel around the resort (Though, weather permitting, I love to walk -- it really is beautiful!).
SSR also has a very nice fs spa (believe it is described as "world-class").
POR is a fun, and looking over at the FQ area across the river is lovely...but SSR is just in another class. Cost being equal, I'd pick SSR without a second thought!
