We (me, DD16, DN15, DD3)will be going to WDW Dec 21-28 and I'm planning on booking FD (Yes, I know this is the last day to book.) We have been well over 30 times but our last visit was in 2010. We have stayed at many resorts but never Coronado. The difference between Pop and Coronado is $153 considering that we would upgrade the free qsdp to regular ddp if we stay at Pop. (I've considered just taking the free qsdp but we really enjoy TS meals.)

My questions:

Is staying at Coronado over Pop worth the price difference and why?

How does the bus service compare?

Any special activities at Coronado during Christmas?

Any thing else I should take into considerations?

Thanks!!

Yes, absolutely worth it, simply for the queen size beds and larger room. We did the same thing. We had originally scheduled FD at POP in standard rooms, with the upgrade to the standard dining plan. Then, CSR released some standard rooms for only $115 more for the entire 6 night stay....no brainer for us. Bus service is very good at both resorts.

I originally booked Pop in May-June of 2013. I told everyone that's where we were going then I secretly "upgraded" to CSR. They were all disappointed. No Disney feel, they said. It was pretty and they liked the pool but they would've rather gone to Pop (and we hadn't stayed there before). The next year I booked Pop (and got the regular dining plan) and everyone was happy. In our family's opinion it is a much better resort despite being a value resort.

Are all 4 of you in the same room? I would say switch to Coronado. It will be worth it just for the breathing room alone. Also, the sink is separated by doors from the room at Coronado, which allows for more privacy. Someone could be in the shower, and someone else could dress in the area by the sinks at the same time. I hope that makes sense. It is correct that Coronado is not Disney feeling, but there is the beach there with the hammocks, a nice walking path around the lake, and the biggest hot tub on property.

CSR is worth it for the queen beds alone. I think it also has one of the nicest non-deluxe pools.

Another vote for CSR over POP.

Like others have said having the queen beds alone would be worth the extra $$ and while CSR may not be over the top, in your face, Disney themed, we actually welcomed that after long days in the parks. The resort has a very peaceful vibe and IMHO has the best themed pool on Disney property next to SAB at the BC/YC!

For only $153 I would always vote for a moderate!

Multiple pools if nothing else!

Maya Grill is a hidden treasure. Rics lounge is very nice and the poolside bar is fun.

For that price difference, CSR is definitely worth it, IMO. The pool is better (there were a few days on our December trip when we could swim), and the Christmas decorations were lovely. I don't remember any special Christmas activities.

I loved Pop for the over-the-top theming, but we made the choice to move to CSR one year for the better free dining choices.

I like CSR's bus service better. It is a larger resort, but the bus stops are spaced around the perimeter. One of the bus routes ends at the front of the resort, so if you end up staying at the back, there is a bus to take around if you want.

I've stayed in both, and Coronado is ABSOLUTELY worth that little of a difference. Just the better night's sleep alone would be worth it to me. Pop's beds are full size, and rather terrible, CSR's are queens and much more comfortable. I also prefer how much more quiet CSR is. Last time I stayed at Pop I ended up calling the front desk after midnight because a dance competition group was running up and down the halls and screaming.

I agree. I stayed in CSR before and for me, it has little to no Disney feel. Too convention-y, and the food court was awful. I am a moderate girl at heart, but if my only choice was between CSR and Pop, I'd go with Pop in a heartbeat.

As a moderate CSR wins when it comes to ammenities. As a vacation resort POP wins for the feel of actually being on vacation and not a business trip. You simply need to decide would you prefer more comfort(CSR) or more of a release from the real world (POP).

We just got to CSr. Waited 5 minutes for Epcot bus. In the meantime, 5 other park buses pulled up. The bus system is much more frequent here than at pop.

Thanks everyone for your great responses. I have thought about it all day. I do love Pop but after considering all of your responses- I went with CSR. I just can't get past the bigger rooms and bigger beds. I also have a feeling that the bus service may be a little better. Plus we have never stayed there and I really would like to stay at all resorts eventually.

Thanks again!!! I can start celebrating- after 5 years, we are finally going home!!!!!

I think that you will really like CSR. After trying several resorts, we were always staying at POFQ until we tried CSR. Now we always stay there. We think it has the best of everything; buses, pools, rooms, beds, access to adult beverages. We have stayed there six times already. Cheers!!!!!

We stayed at Pop last May and absolutely LOVED it! Having said that, we are giving CSR a go this Thanksgiving, and can't wait!

You will really like it. In reality, only the value resorts have a Disney feel. Mods and deluxes are themed for other purposes. No mod or deluxe feels like Disney. We've stayed at all values and mods, visited all others and have never felt like it was Disney except the values.
