??? When we stayed at AoA, I remember using my MB to get in. I also remember the gate being unlocked a lot. Not arguing the point of pool hopping, just my experience.

Agree-just like the Resort Laundries,Disney can and does at times make the AoA Pools only accessible via MagicBand.

Our DDs will pick ASMO over POP all the time, because of the theme. I just want to say good luck to the OP, because based on the husband and the 2 out of 3 "hopes" 1. Short wait for buses/ short as possible travel time to MK, HS, AK - especially MK and AK & 3. Food court - not having to wait forever in line. It could go either way, short or long waits, on any given day. Travel time will be 15-25 minutes depending on which park. Our family will usually use this time to discuss our plans, what we're excited to see and looking forward too and the next thing we know we're there
Tip: do not leave a park right after fireworks, because that's when most of the people leave and you will definitely hit long waits for transportation.

IIRC the beds are the same size in both resorts, the difference between the old and new rooms is that the refurbished rooms have one regular bed and one murphy bed that folds up into the wall and becomes a seating area when the bed isn't in use. That refurbishment is happening at the All Stars too.

At Pop all rooms have been refurbished and now have two queen beds.

ASMO started a renovation, but last I heard they randomly stopped partway through and have yet to start again. Old rooms have 2 fulls, refurbished rooms have 2 queens.

Oh, and the old rooms at ASMO are old. We stayed one night in December '17 and the room was in rough shape. I wouldn't stay there again until I could be sure I was getting a refurbished room.

I love Pop and would stay there every trip if I wasn't interested in trying new resorts. I love the layout of the resort (doesn't seem big to me at all).

The Skyliner should be open by September so there's another mode of transportation to get to HS and Epcot.

ETA: The one downfall of Pop (IMO) is that it always seems to be the last depot station at the parks when leaving at the end of the night.
