I need help...i'm leaving for my trip on Saturday and I have the blues about staying at POFQ. I have only stayed at the WL and have loved it there and i'm a little worried that I won't like the POFQ. Please tell me that i'm going to enjoy it! I need some positive feedback!!!

KTSMOM -

My wife and I have stayed there three times and loved it every time. Now, this opinion may be clouded by the fact that the first time we were there was on our honeymoon, but we think it is a very nice hotel.

The main thing is to not go there expecting it to be bad. If you do, it will be. I know when I am in a bad mood, everything irritates me...even things that normally would not.

Don't compare it to other resorts, Disney or otherwise, just show up and let it speak for itself.

Besides you're gonna be in WDW. Rejoice! :teeth:

No worries... you will enjoy your stay at POFQ... just keep in mind that is is not WL. It's a totally different theme. And it's moderate vs. deluxe. But even though it is moderate, the disney service is still there. But if you start comparing POFQ moderate and WL deluxe and you're looking for deluxe ammenities... then this resort will not suit you. Just keep an open mind and tell yourself that you are in Disney. :)

I have stayed at WL and Poly... and I still love POFQ. It is a very charming resort. It is quaint lovely place. YOu will enjoy the boat ride to DTD. You can enjoy the POR ammenities. They are sister resort, so pool hopping is welcome and bring your refill mugs there too and you can dine at their food court as well.

You are going to love it. While I have never stayed, my sister stays at POR and POFQ every trip. Before the POR and PORQ, she stayed at the Poly. She loves all three and gives the Poly the leg up only for transportation options. She loves the grounds and believes the pool is much better at POR and the French Quarter.

While I would disagree with my sis about POR and PORQ being better than the Poly, I have to admit, the grounds are pretty impressive. The theming is beatiful, especially at night; yet the grounds have that kind of cool, historic and rustic feel. Boatwrights is very good too.

Here are the only differences I bet you will notice. Rooms are a little smaller. I don't know how many people are in your party, but squeezing 5 into a moderate room may be a bit tight. I never get hung up on room size and rarely notice the difference in size. Second, there are less transportation options. If you are used to the WL, then you are used to going most places by bus. So this should not be a big change.

Don't worry. You will love the resort.

Thanks guys! I'm sure you're right that I will enjoy POFQ. It came highly recommended which is why we chose it in the first place. I guess I am nervous because I have so many wonderful memories of the WL. It's time to start some new ones at the POFQ.

Ok..granted it's the only resort we've stayed at at Disney (with the exception of our 1 HORRIBLE night at ASM..which I con't count anyway)..but my husband and I LOVE POFQ. (now so does our 3 yr old) The only difference you are probably going to notice is the rooms will be smaller (but hey..who stays in the room anyway) and the lack of a full service resturant. They do have a good food court though. Boatrights is just a short walk/boatride away at POR.

Things we love about POFQ....
1. wonderful theme
2. The BEST pool
3. Boat service to POR and DTD
4. bus service (POFQ is the first to be picked up at the resort and the 1st to be dropped off after a long day at the parks)
5. it's a small resort

OH ...we just love everything. Have a great stay..I'm so jealous. We probably won't be back until next Christmas....

KTSMOM, keep in mind that it IS a moderate, not a deluxe, ie. outside corridors, no onsite table service restaurant, smaller rooms and beds. Plus, bus service only to the parks. We stayed there in July and personally it just wasn't our cup of tea. We felt a lot more isolated there than we do at the deluxes. Just my two cents. Enjoy being at Disney World!

KTSMOM!
Hubby and I have stayed 6 times at the POFQ because we love this resort. We have stayed at the S/D twice which we love and the WL AKL BC and so on... We truly Love everything about the POFQ...Small,Friendly,Clean,Up-dated, Fun Pool,Begients,Transportation first on first off,Boat to DTD, Horse rides, I could go on for ever, but the real test was 3 weeks ago. I took a 5 day trip to WDW with my very wealthy,Fussy, spoiled Daughter who only stays at 5 star and above hotels. She is so fussy that I thought she would hate staying at the POFQ's. I have a bad back and I can get around the FQ's so much eaiser so she said she would deal with a moderate resort for me. OH my, She LOVED the FQ's and said she would stay there in a heart beat.. She said the Fluffyness and Plush and people waiting on you are :wave2: not there but the feel of being in New Orleans FQ's is.. She really Liked this resort and said she will take me for another trip there this Jan. to the FQ's.. You will be Surprised, it's a Wonderful Resort and one of our favorite places to stay at the World. Have Fun...

I think that I can help. I stay in 4* and 5* hotels and resorts for most of the year due to work, and sometimes find it hard to 'downgrade' to a regular hotel room.

POR was my favourite moderate, and I have stayed there over 200 nights, even up to 16 nights in one stay. I just didn't like the idea of POFQ and the small food court and layout.

It was actually Fantasia who convinced me to stay there twice this year, although she doesn't realize it! I had two wonderful stays. The room was fresh, and I even received towel animals!

Although it was very hot each time I stayed, the theming appealed to me much more than in past (I like the treed areas and water at POR and WL).

Yes, the food court is small, and gets a little busy when the parks close. But I was able to find something to meet my veggie needs each time. I just didn't plan to use the food court often, and I don't at any of the WDW resorts.

Have a great stay!

We love POFQ -- the themeing is delightful with the bright colors and frolicking crocodiles. We love the way the buildings frame relaxing garden courtyards. After a long day at the parks, going back to POFQ is so refreshing.

The biggest downer, for us, at POFQ is the lack of a sit-down restaurant. However, if you hop on the boat shuttle (runs starting at 4 p.m.) you are dropped of right in Downtown Disney with a plethora of dining and shopping options.

Give POFQ a chance, I think you will enjoy yourself!

We really like POFQ. My kids are teens and still like the pool, arcade, and the food court. The lack of a sit down restaurant does not bother us at all. We can always go to POR or DTD if we want that. The theming is beautiful. We are returning next summer and can't wait. Have fun!

Aha! So you went twice this year!! Well... glad you enjoyed your stay! And even got your towel animals... lucky you!! :)

POFQ is great anytime of the year! The way I see it... with WL, it's a wintery resort, so I think this is the best time to go there, especially during the holiday. And for Poly, think of tropical, where it's nice and very warm, so Poly is great for summer and besides, Poly does not have hot tubs, so winter maybe not be great if you want hot water during those cold days/nights. And POFQ... anytime is a great time to go and stay at this resort!!

We'd previously stayed at BWI, AKL, CR, and other moderates (CBR, POR) and hadn't tried POFQ until April of last year and went there mostly because of the renovation, but also out of curiosity. Now we don't know that we'd ever choose to stay anywhere else. It has wonderful charm and by being so much smaller than most of the resorts, everything is close by and it's much less busy and much more quiet than other places we've stayed. We were actually pretty upset that we weren't able to get into POFQ for our next trip!

As others have mentioned, it's a moderate vs deluxe like you're used to, but comparing my stay in AKL (similar in size/amenities to WL) to POFQ, they're both great, but we probably liked the charm of POFQ much more and the busing is very convenient to everywhere other than MK.

I hope you enjoy your stay and be sure to report back on what you thought of POFQ!

And it's actually a very short walk to POR. I had boarded the boat to DTD from POFQ; it made a stop at POR and due to an issue on board, I offered to get off and walk back to my car at POFQ. (long story, another guest was having some personal problems and since I had no set itinerary I offered to get off a full boat to help out the CMs)

Although it was over 90 degrees, it was a pleasant walk back to FQ and only took a few minutes.

Fantasia, yes, you do have influence over several of us!!! :rotfl:

I too know your pain...........I have been a WL devotee since it opened, but it is getting increasingly hard to get a room there especially with a code. I was forced into POFQ this past April, and right up til the time I left I was still trying for the WL. Well I was pleasantly surprised and am now returning to POFQ in Oct. and again in Dec. Will I miss the WL in Dec. yes, love the Christmas feel, but again there has been nothing available, I have to say I really love POFQ now, it has a wonderful walking/running path between there and Riverside that I use in the morning, between the 2 resorts Food Courts you have plenty of options and between the 2 resorts you have plenty of pools to use. The landscaping is beautiful and the rooms are new. So be ready to be pleasantly surprised and enjoy, this is a wonderful time of year to visit FL!

Hi: We tried the french quarter two years ago and love it. The decorating is so nice. I love the colour on the walls as well as the yellow bedspreads. Count the mickeys on the bedspread.
Take a look at the furniture, the dresser, the headboards very nicely done. The beds were so comfortable as well. We also love that they put the curtain at the end of the room near the sinks for a little privacy. Lots of trees for shade as well.

Make sure you stroll over to riverside, we also like to eat at the riverside foodcourt as well as the port orleans foodcourt. At night it is pretty with the street lights. Have fun,

Deb.

We went to POFQ for DS's 3rd birthday in November 2002 with a family group that ranged from 3 -- 73! Everyone loved it. We were in one of the front buildings so we were conveniently located to everything -- food court, bus stop, boat, front desk, playground, etc.

And did anyone mention beignets? My mouth is watering just thinking about them!!! We ate in the food court quite a bit and were always very happy with the food. We loved the boat to Downtown Disney. We never used the pool because it was quite cool when we were there (except for the first day which was full because it was DS's birthday -- oh well!) The best part of the resort for us was how close we were to the bus stop. We didn't have to walk 20 minutes to get back to our room after a long day at the park!

We're debating which moderate to stay at for DD's 3rd birthday celebration (May 2006) and are having a very hard time deciding. We'd like to try another resort, but only because we like to try everything. However, we don't want to get stuck way out in one of the resorts where we aren't near anything!

As the other posters said, if you go to the resort expecting Wilderness Lodge -- you won't get it. If you go in with an open mind, I'm sure you will really appreciate this special resort. It is so charming -- especially at night!

Enjoy!

Isn't it funny what one person likes and the other doesn't? Have stayed at the Poly, CR, WL, AKL, CSR and POFQ and the only one I really didn't care for was the WL, but staying there didn't ruin my trip. Your so right rcraw45425 - Enjoy being at Disney!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

I have the same concerns about POFQ, even tho we've never stayed at a deluxe, only ***, POR and CSR. We have two teenagers and wonder if they'll like the quietness of this resort, and their pool which looks geared toward younger kids.
