Help !!! Please

We are having the great debate in my house about what time we should do the wedding.


We were thinkin sunset point for the wedding.

I say mid morning so we can go some where and have lunch

others have said in the evening and have dinner.


I say morning becasue of cost factor for lunch but others say evening becasue of christmas time and lights and such and so forth.

So please help. I am trying to say on budget and get everyone feed for under 30 a head aka tax included. Please tell me what would you choose and why ??

To tell you the truth, there aren't many places in Disney (fancy places anyway), that serve lunch. If you are getting married at Sunset point, you could go to Kona Cafe, but I'm not sure that would be the place that you would want to take wedding guests.

I would do the ceremony late afternoon, or in the evening. Then you have many other options for dinner. I personally would do a restaurant along the monorail line so you don't have to worry about providing transportation, and that guests don't wonder off and get lost! If you want to go to a fancier place, say California Grill at the Contemporary, I am sure they can design a menu just for your guests, or you can have a meal already planned out. That way you can stick with in your $30 per person budget.

A fun thing to do would be to all go to Ohanna's. I think that is less then 30 pp, or even a character meal.
Be aware that with a larger group, you may have to take the first seating or last seating at some restaurants. Most restaurants open for dinner at 5:00, but a few at the GF open at 4:30.
So maybe you can have a 3 or 3:30 ceremony at SP, and then take the first seating at one of the restaurunts in that area.

When I was planning my wedding I thought we would have the ceremony at 11:00 and then have lunch. Well like Merandab4 stated there are hardly any nice places that are open for lunch, so this time around we will probably be planning for a later ceremony or an early one and take everyone out to breakfast.

I was married at the Pavilion 8/9/04 and I, too, was on a budget. I had an evening wedding (6pm). However, I was there for hurricane charlie, so things did not turn out as well as I would have liked. No outside pictures and I went a bit over budget. But because I had a small wedding the intimate package I stayed away from restraunt dinners, I wanted something more intimate (private). So, we rented the admiral suite at the Yacht Club for one night and had everyone go back there for dinner. I was in touch with Disney catering and they had everything set up and waiting for us for when we arrived. It was awesome! Food was great, everyone was able to dine at their own leisure. However the room was very expensive, but worth it. The night cleared up and we were able to have some wonderful pics taken with all of the boardwalk lights behind us over the lake. I say that the lighting is worth it for a nighttime wedding, espically if the weather does not cooperate during the day, at least you have a second chance for nice nighttime pics. The other advantage to an evening wedding is that you don't have to be as concerned about what your guests will do after dinner, you can either go your seprate ways or head to pleasure island for some dancing.

A family friend of mine was married at sunset point in June of this year, it rained during her wedding, too, so she was moved inside. However, she had dinner at Fultons and they were right there for Pleasure Island at night. So, it is up to your taste and what you would like to get out of your pictures! But the most important thing to remember is to enjoy your day, things will work out one way or the other.

Are you considering MK protrait session? If so, and you are on a budget, earlier is better. I did the MK portrait session the same day as my 10:00 VR ceremony and that way I only had Disney do my hair and makeup once. We had lunch at the concourse steakhouse at the CR so it was on the monorail and we had a great lunch. They don't have a separate room, but we did have cutom menus.

Are you planning an intimate wedding? I'm not sure, but I think they only do intimates at 9am, 11am, 1pm, and 5pm. That might have some impact on what you choose. I could be wrong though (it has happened before! )

I originally had a 9am slot but it was changed to 11am. For me it had to do with the (hot and humid) outside air temps later in the day...but it sounds as if you are planning your wedding for around December so having your wedding at 1 or 5 wouldn't be as hot!

We are planning on having a nice, leisurely breakfast, do the ceremony, and then have the afternoon to just "enjoy the moment". Then we're planning an "early" dinner at California Grill.

I think it would depend on how many guests you are having and if there are any little kids that would get bored. I would think even if you have a couple of hours between your ceremony and the dinner, it's at Walt Disney World...it's not like there isn't lots of stuff to do during that time, you know?

We got married @ Sunset Pointe @ 11am...and had a dinner that evening. After the wedding we went our separate ways for awhile and joined up for dinner. It worked @ well for us!

We are having our intimate wedding at 10:00am at the Wedding Pavilion then off to lunch at Portabello Yacht Club. I wanted a late wedding with a dinner meal after for the same reason everyelse listed - more choices- but my fiance wanted as early as possible to so only nice place we could find for lunch was Portabello's. I was told it is very nice inside and great food. After lunch everyone is on there own (naptime for me) and we are hoping to meet up later in the evening and do something as a group, still planning this part.

Have you considored doing a grand gathering fireworks voyage??? I know this is not dinner but its about 30-35 a person and includes desserts a meeting with peter pan and hook, and of course a cruise to view wishes. It is just a suggestion. Also I do suggest maybe chef Mickeys if you are looking for a more fun and "DIsney" experience. Everyone will find something they like and I am sure the characters will make a bug hurrah about your wedding and it is on the monorail line. Chef Mickeys opens for dinner at 5:30 I believe

Ohh Tell me more about chef Mickey. I will be having kids there and I want them to have fun also I also want to wear my dress I guess that is why I am trying to figuare all of this out.

How much is Chef Mickey's?

Man this planning is all to hard for me. Choices choices.

I am trying to stay in a budget for all of this but it is getting freaking hard.

Lunch is tough. Dinner is expensive, but there are so many more choices. And while Chef Mickey's is a great option for the atmosphere, unless you are a vegatarian, you will probably like the food better over at Ohanas if the price is right for your budget. I know good food at a reasonable price on property is almost impossible, but it can be found ... just hardly at lunch time.

If you are doing a December wedding (and it kinda sounds like it???), then if you can at all arrange for it, go have your pictures done at the lobby in the Grand. It is the best hotel lobby at Christmas on property and you'll never forget it. Plus it smells like gingerbread from the ginormous house they build in the corner! Even if they won't do them there, get someone with a good digital camera in your group to shoot your guys there with the tree, g'bread house, staircase, etc. It's SO neat!

Either way, go for the evening, as the lights and pics from wherever you choose on property will be worth it. Disney at Christmas is about as magical as anyone on the planet can dream it. And only in December can you get so many decorations in the background for "free"! My 2 cents.

I don't know how many people you are planning on having, but there are lots of choices for lunch if you go through Disney catering. Have you discussed those options? I am not sure how they compare price-wise with one of the restaurants, but for instance, I know you can rent California Grill during the day and use one of their private rooms...i think about 15-20 people fit?? Same can be done at Citricos at GF. In both cases, you use restaurant chefs but it is a set menu that you choose ahead of time. I am sure you could rent rooms at the Boardwalk or Yacht Club and do lunch as well. Lots of options, just tell the sales manager your budget and see what might work.

Thanks for all of the great suggestions ladies. Now I have to make a choice evening or lunch. I was hoping to get a ton of pictures done of us day and night in my dress but I think the evening is going to win becasue if I do it early enough I have enough daylight for the day shoot but can have evening shoot done also. Also now that there is no disney cosmo it really does not matter what doing it in the morning for the photo shoot then the wedding.

So we will see



I will let you know for sure then I will really need the help with the food aspect.

unless you are a vegatarian, you will probably like the food better over at Ohanas if the price is right for your budget.

Actually, I am a vegetarian...and O'Hana had a special dinner for me. So, if you want to go there, just make sure they know you are a vegetarian and they will accomodate you!

i would look into booking the wedding for later in the afternoon say 3pm & having dinner at one of the resort restaurants like ohana at the polynesian which is a buffet served family style like $20pp & has large tables & would stay with the aloha/tropical theme from your wedding at sunset point. if you book the wedding earlier there arent as many sites available for lunch unless you book a private venue like ariels or the attic for your dinner/reception meal.
