Help please!

I dont know if any of you will be able to help me with this one, but if anyone can its you!

My school's drama club wants to put on a movie night fundraiser, and i was wondering if i need to obtain any legal info or whatever to show a disney movie. Its totally non-profit for a high school group. Any help would be great! Thanks guys!!

I'm not positive, but I think that since you're using it as a fundraiser, that yes you do need to have some kind of permission. No idea how you go about doing that, though, and since you're non-profit that may be wrong, but I'd be careful.

We didn't have to have any permission except the principals. He had to make sure someone was there to clean up and lock up behind us.
Besides that, have fun. You might want to double check though. Your principal should either know or be able to find out.

I don't know how you get permission to show a film, sorry.

dont get any permission, its like tearing the tag off your mattress, you will never get caught

We do a movie night each month. We show all kinds of movies. As long as we don't charge to see the movie itself we don't cross any legalities. We charge for the snacks and we make a nice profit. Not a great one, but nice.

If you go through a vendor that rents movies to schools and other groups you're ok. If you go to your local video shop to pick up the movie and then charge people to see it you are technically breaking the law. You could get around this I think by not charging to see the film but charging for some other factor. For example, free movie with the purchase of a $3 beverage.
