i have a family of 8 plus an infant i dont want to spend thousands of dollars on a room with tickets and dinning plan, can someone please give me some options about witch resort would be the best we can do?:confused3 Thank you.

Hi -

I know it is overwhelming with a large family. There are 7 of us (4 adults, 2 kids) and I wasn't sure what to do. I decided that the best thing was to rent a property off-site. I found a 4 bedroom 3 bath house for about $100 per night.

Granted, it will take some research and depends on what time of year you plan on travelling (we are going for Labor Day weekend). But just do the research and you will find great tips here on the boards.

If you want to stay on the grounds, you could try the value rooms, at the all-stars or pop. I would try posting on the resort section and see what people say. I don't know anything about DVC points but you could look into buying some.

Buying DVC points would cost you, on average, an initial cost of roughly $16,000 (more than that depending on how many points you purchase) plus monthly maintenance fees for the next 50 years. I don't think purchasing points is what you would be interested in. However, renting a reservation from a DVC member might be something you might like to look into. You would need a 2 bedroom villa for your size family and I don't know if you would be able to rent that cheap enough.

Value Family Suites might be your best bet if you want to stay on grounds.

Welcome to the disboards! From research here we stayed at a 3 bedroom 3 bathroom townhouse with a small private pool (the resort has a large pool with a slide) that was about five minutes from Animal Kingdom. Windsor Hills has many great reviews here. Some places to check out www.storytimeorlandorental.com www.vacationcentralflorida.com www.windsorhillsrents.com It is amazing how much you will save in money for room and food and time by driving instead of waiting for buses.

Any questions, feel free to pm me.

The cheapest route for a larger family is staying offsite somewhere with a full kitchen. It's also the most comfortable option. ;) You miss the theming of a Disney resort but get more room for less money. Eat breakfast at "home" and prepare some or most of your food there. There are places offsite that're as close to the parks as some onsite resorts, in which case you can take a break at the resort in the middle of the day, meaning the younger ones can take naps and the older ones get in the pool and everyone can avoid the worst crowds.

The "Orlando resorts" sub board has some specific suggestions and can recommend places close to Disney or give you an idea how far away the resort you're considering might be.

We are a large family and we NEVER stay off-site. We get two connecting rooms at a value resort - that is the cheapest way for your family of 8 to stay on-site. Also, the best time to go, in regard to saving money, is when the fall free dining promo is going on. The speculated dates for this year are August 15 - October 2 and should be released soon. If want to go ahead and book now, you can add the free dining code to your existing reservation when it comes out. The free dining discount alone, would save you close to $2,000.00 on a week's vacation.

Free dining is not guaranteed to be offered every year. Whenever you plan to vacation in the world, be prepared to do it with or without free dining.

We don't vacation in the World anymore without free dining :-)

Free Dining has been offered every fall since 2005 and while nothing in life is a guarantee, free dining at WDW in September is a pretty safe bet. Free Dining in September came about because that is the height of hurricane season and the resort used to be empy during that timeframe. Free Dining now brings the crowds in by the tens of thousands and fills up those rooms. I don't see that dynamic changing anytime soon.

Also, even if you can't get a free dining discount there is almost always some sort of discount available and most people do plan on that.

Depends on how much you eat. We did free dining one September trip. Too much food for us. Maybe we could eat more if it were a cooler time of year but it was too hot to eat.

We saved more staying offsite, eating mostly offsite or at townhouse. Couple meals and snacks at Disney (ahh...Butterfinger cupcake at Starring Rolls-now that's a meal!)

We won't stay off-site, love the total immersion of being at the Disney resorts. Also, we've been doing the basic dining plan for the last five years, free or not, and have always found it to be just the right amount of food - 2 meals and 1 snack per day.

With free dining the six of us can stay 8 nights with two connecting rooms at All-Star movies, with 7 day hoppers, 48 table service meals, 48 counter service meals and 48 snacks for about $2,800.00. That's a really good deal for a family our size, plus we get all of the on-site perks.

Hello there!!

With a family of 8- I really the most economical way to go would be to stay offsite (somewhere with a full kitchen), but if you want to stay onsite- check out the cabins over at Fort Wilderness. We stayed there last June and had an awesome time. FW is so much fun that the kids almost didn't want to go to the parks each day (they loved the kiddie pool area!!!)

It was wonderful to be able to make breakfasts before we headed to the parks, and come back mid day for lunch, naps and some swimming!!

Have a wonderful time!!!

The cheapest way to say on-site is with two connecting rooms at a value resort. In value season that would be about $164.00 per night. The FW cabins, which only sleep six and have one bathroom, are about $250.00 per night during value season. Two cabins would be about $500.00 per night.

There's a current kids stay and play free promotion going on now and free dining should be announced for the fall in a couple of weeks.
