First of all, thank you for reading this!

I am all set to make my very first set of t-shirts!

I met a wonderful DISer, Halloweenqueen, on the boards and she not only made a design for me, she graciously printed them out on transfer papers and mailed them to me!

Unfortunately, she has not been on the DIS for a while, so I am unable to pm her with an important question.... do you think you could help?

From what I understand, you are supposed to place the transfer, image side down onto the shirt and then iron it. After it's cool, you remove the backing paper, right?

Well, the image she created for me has wording. If I place the transfer, image side down, won't the words come out reversed??

(When I look at the transfer, it reads "normally", left to right.)

Am I missing something here?? I don't have any extras to do a "test", just the exact amount for the number of shirts I need, so I don't want to mess it up!

:thanks: Kathy

If when you look at the transfer the text reads left to right correctly and has not been reversed then you should place the image on the shirt (REMOVE the BACKING FIRST) with the image facing up. It should be on the shirt facing you.

It sounds to me like she used dark transfer paper (which normally does not need to be reversed and also normally is placed on the shirt face up)

Be sure to trim the image before removing the backing paper. I normally peel the paper back just to the edge of the design, replace paper and then cut out image. This will help remove the paper backing and not damage the corners of your design.

Thank you!

 Yes, I seem to remember her telling me that she likes to use dark transfer paper!

It's getting late, so I'm going to try it tomorrow. I'll let you know how it turned out!

Hope you have a great vacation!
How did you make out with the t-shirts?

When you go to print your design. Under printer preferences, hit the advance button and this should open up an option box. Scroll down until you see "mirror image" Highlight this and say YES, this will flip your design so that when you print it off, and then iron it, it will be the correct way..I had the designers help me by reversing the images for me, and then late last night the light went off and wow...I can do it myself:) I can't peal the paper off so I am not sure about that. I just know that when I now iron it on, it's the correct way. Good luck and have a great vacation:)

BEFORE YOU DO YOUR SHIRT!!!

It does sound like you have dark transfer paper. Did she send you an overlay sheet? Unless you are using a paper I have never tried, you should have an overlay sheet to put on top of your design before you put a hot iron on it. It looks like a cross between tissue and wax paper.

I just want to make sure you don't burn your design. Maybe you already know this and I apologize if I am just taking up space here...:goodvibes

Anyway, best of luck!!

Thanks, Cissy! :goodvibes

I was going to use parchment paper (you know, the kind you bake cookies on), but do you think I should make a trip to Michael's instead??
