I've had an on-going battle with those teeny tiny sugar ants for about a year now. They show up on my kitchen counter in hoards if there is the smallest bit of food out.

Then I read somewhere to put pepper down where they come in. This acutally worked great...I didn't see any of the stupid things for a few months, but now it's summer and they must of found another route around the pepper because they are back.

Yesterday I searched outside and found (I think) their nest....so what is the best way to kill that nest?

And if that doesn't work...I'm assuming, there may be more than one nest...HOW DO I KEEP THE DAMN THINGS OUT OF MY KITCHEN?!?!

I hate them too! I found they were getting in through the kitchen window and also from the back porch. I went outside and sprayed both entry areas and was ant free for quite a while. Now every time I see one inside, I respray. So far, so good.

Ant cups (traps) work well for sugar ants. They take the "food" in the trap back to the nest and then they "go away".

What did you spray please? Is there a specific spray for these tiny ones?

I found an ant mound right next to my patio slab, I wonder if I could I just spray the mound?

Just regular ole Raid House and Garden.

Mix 1 tbsp. of sugar, and 1 tbsp. of Borax with 2 tbsp. of water to make a thick syrup. Soak cotton balls in mixture and place cotton balls on low lids or something flat so that ants can get to it, I use little squares of foil. Place them in the middle of the ant infestations. Ants will eat it and take it back to the nest. Slowly but surely, the numbers will diminish. Have patience. Keep well out of reach of children and pets.

Terro Liquid Ant Baits.

I swear by them now. A box of them only cost about $5 or so at Lowes & it was the only thing that actually got rid of the sugar ants.

You do have to kind of pinpoint their entry points---for us, they were coming in from behind the stove, fridge & under the kitchen sink. (Yeah, we had a lot of them!) A couple traps in each spot is all it took. I haven't seen a sugar ant in my kitchen since. :)

I've heard of Terro...but I thought you had to put them outside near where they are coming in?

I heading to Lowe's Thursday and am going to shop the pest control aisle to mount a full assault inside and out!

No, these are for indoor & outdoor use. :) The ones I bought are the pre-filled ones---you snip off one end, then place it where it needs to go. Just make sure that you put them where they can't be reached by pets or children. Like I said, I put them behind the stove, fridge & under the sink because that's where I was seeing the most activity. Follow the trail until you can somewhat guess where they're coming in from.

I did place one outside on the lanai because one set of ants was coming in through the slider, so I was able to watch that group. The ants were gone within 24 hours. :woohoo:

TERRO!!

Don't use any type of sprays as that will not get rid of them. Use Terro, you can find it at Home Depot or hardware stores. The ants will swarm like crazy to the Terro but do NOT kill them. They MUST take the Terro back to the nest to kill the queen. That is the only way to get rid of them - by killing the queen. Terro really works!!

I actually have found dishwashing liquid to work very well.

I wipe a thin layer on my counter wear the ants are. I also have many ant hills in my front yard.. I just go poor dishwashing liquid on them. Dawn Specifically. I know i'm a terrible person! :goodvibes
