Hi I hope someone can advise me. Is it better to just rent one inside the park or off site?
We also have park hopper tickets. My husband is having leg surgery Dec 7 and will need a wheelchair for our Disneyland Trip Dec 25th-27th. We are staying at the Park Vue Inn.

off site is cheaper and you can take it to DTD and to the hotel. If you use a Disney one you can only use it in the parks and you can not take it to DTD.

Only things is, make sure you have room in your room to charge it or ask the front desk if they have some where that you can charge it.

Yes, this! My mom rented one from Deckert for our October trip. She said they were VERY helpful over the phone, and helped her get the right scooter for her. It was there when we checked in to the hotel, and she just dropped it off in the lobby.

It was so great to have the scooter for the trek from the park to the hotel. It's not far (we were at the BWPPI, and it's close, just like the Park Vue), but if you need a scooter for in the parks, the trip from the gate to hotel can seem like miles!

Off site for sure, we rented through Deckert's I think for my grandma in Dec. 2008 - best of luck, I'd hate to not be on my own 2 feet during that time - it's gonna be busy :crowded:

I also recommend renting from a local Anaheim company. Disneyland prices might get pricey and, as princesszelda said, you can only use it inside the parks. Here are the contact numbers for some of the companies we recommend our guest to use:

D&R Mobility - (714) 883-8761
Deckert Surgical – (714) 542-5607
Anaheim Medical Supply - (714) 999-6710

Hope this helps!

I use Deckerts.

Be aware, those days are VERY busy days, and maneuvering will be "fun" to say the least. If your husband can walk the lines for rides, most rides will be faster that way than trying to use the handicap lines.

If he has never used an ECV before, have him practice a bit in the hotel parking lot or a walkway. They don't usually stop the way you would expect, and in crowds, you really need to maintain the ability to stop before running people over. BUT, leaving a "cushion" to avoid hitting people gives people the idea that space is for them to step into to get ahead of you. Really so much fun <not>.

Thank you all so much, your advise is great. We just returned for conference with surgeon and he says DH will be fine by our trip and just have him take more breaks if he needs to. DH Whopped and pumped his fits at the news, the Dr. laughed!

DH has a permanent disability, rather than a temporary one, but he has a lot of trouble if he tries to do the lines and leave his ECV outside. Especially long lines. If it's as crowded as ppl say, use the handicapped entrance so he won't be standing in line for 45 minutes straight.

Off-site like the others said! My mom and I just came back and she rented an ECV from Deckert's...it worked GREAT. It was $135, I believe, for 5 days...so much cheaper than on-site, and it allowed Mom to go back to the room without paying (and waiting) for ART.
