Hi there! Don't fly too often, so I am hoping those of you who do and keep good track of historical airfare rates, etc. can help me! We need a return flight from MCO to SoCal (doesn't really matter where, since there are so many SoCal airports around!) first week of July. Found a great rate on AirTran ($125 each, no seat fees) but would sort of prefer Southwest because they allow changes if need be and sometimes that is helpful with our schedules. However, Southwest fares for the same timeframe runs about $180. Question is: would any of you who fly frequently expect Southwest rates to maybe go down, or is it expected that they might go up from here, or is it just a cr**shoot? Your advice is appreciated. I will book AirTran within the next day if you all think it is unlikely that SW will go down. I have read up, and realize that AirTran has some schedule issues and $15 bag fees.

Thanks!!

AirTran has schedule issues and charges for baggage. You did not specify what days you are flying with SWA best days to avoid are Sun and Thurs

The advantage of SWA is if you need to change dates/times they don't charge and even if you have to cancel the money remains in your SWA account to use for other flights.

SWA has pretty consistent prices - they do go down at times so after you book and the same flight is cheaper you can get the cheaper flight.

Southwest prices do go down at times. I would subscribe to their newsletter and to DING!. Many times a special will show up.
