Help please! Questions on transferring between resorts...

Hi all!

I could really use some advice from those who have done this before....last time we went to Disney we stayed at one resort the entire week, so I have no experience moving resorts.

We currently have a single night at ASMu on Saturday 11/25 and will be transferring the next day to WL for the rest of our trip. We have the dining plan for our WL stay and need to make sure that's activated before heading to the park Sunday. So here's the questions...

1) Can the ASMu desk check us in to the WL? If they can, does anyone have experience with them being able to keep your room preferences or will we get whatever random room they assign? This is important because we are traveling with another party and have room requests for adjoining (or nearby) rooms. I don't want to get assigned two random rooms across the resort from each other for an entire week.

2) How long does the process take to drop your bags off at bell services for them to transfer to the new resort? Is there paperwork or something to fill out?

Thanks for the help!

No, one resort can’t check you into another one. Disney will transfer your luggage, you would call bell Service the night before. We prefer to take a cab first thing in the morning and go to new resort with our luggage. But we live outside of the US and don’t get magic bands shipped. We have to pick them up at resort desk..

I’m assuming you receive your bands shipped to your home, and if you do online check in, you’re already checked into WL before you arrive. So you should have no problem just getting Disney to transfer luggage to WL, and just head to the parks. All your dining credits should be on your WL band. I wouldn’t expect your luggage to be at WL. Before 3:00. Bring anything you think you’ll need before that with you in a pack pack or something.

During online check in there is a place to enter a couple of requests. I also have my room requests attached to my reservation.

No, it's not possible to have one resort check you in to another.

There's no need to go to WL before you hit the park. Your dining credits will be active and available on your Magic Bands on the day that your reservation begins.

Thanks, I'm really concerned because I keep getting conflicting information about if the dining credits will indeed be on there without going to check in at the resort first.

They should be on there. If for some reason they're not, I believe you can room charge it and then go to concierge at WL to sort it out.

If I were doing that stay, I would pack your suitcases for WL. Pack a backpack or small carry on for the AS part of your stay, and then it's only one thing to unpack/repack. Wheel down to bell services in the AM, tell them you're moving to WL - they'll tag the bags and off you go to the parks. Like with DME, it will be a while before you see your bags again, so be sure you have essentials (meds etc) in your park bag.

I've only moved between resorts a couple of times, but always had good results. It does take a while for bell services to deliver bags after you check into resort #2 - but that's just the way of it.

Have fun!

Do you have a dining plan for ASMu or just WL? If it is just WL, you should be fine. If for some reason it's not, then charge the meal/snack back to the room and work with the front desk to resolve it once you return to WL. If you have one for ASMu, you need to use all the credit prior to activating the WL one.

When we did this 2 years ago, we stopped at the desk of our first resort and checked out completely. They called our second resort, let them know we had checked out and asked if our new room was ready. It wasn't. We took an Uber over with our luggage and dropped everything except what we needed for the park off with Bell Services, and went on with our day. The room was ready a few hours later, and we called and they brought everything up. We didn't want to be without our stuff until dinnertime, so this was a better option for us. We knew it was there and waiting when the room was ready. Also good to know- Bell Services can keep things refrigerated if they need to...

Thank you for your help. We have two kids so the taxi/uber to the WL Sunday morning isnt as attractive an option. The dining plan is just for the WL, so we will just check out completely from ASMu and perhaps they can do what your hotel did and phone WL for the status of our new room. We'll just head to the park and if worse comes to worse, charge the meals for the day and get it all sorted out at the WL desk when we get back that night.

Thanks for the packing tips! We will definitely be packing ASMu and WL 'separately' so I don't have to touch anything but one suitcase for the first night. I'm not worried about length of time until our luggage shows up....so long as it is there by bedtime, I'm happy :D

We really did not have an issue with the dining plan- and we had a plan for both stays (but our stays were 3 days then 4 days). The front desk at WL is wonderful- they will help you sort it out if something happens. Enjoy your trip!
