Hello, all! I am a closet "Fort Fiend" :goodvibes and need some help/advice from the experts here with a problem I have been unable to solve. I promised my DD16 a summer trip to FW, complete with Golf cart (rented from Kenny, of course!). My problem is, I have a very little (teeny, tiny) car.... OK it's a Scion xA. I don't think it will fit 3 people along with cooler, camping gear etc.... I also (ahem) not being the spring-chicken summer camper I used to be, found an air-conditioned teardrop camper to rent. :thumbsup2

Now the problem... I need a tow vehicle. I am having no luck finding something to rent for the week to do this. :headache: Any suggestions? All help will be appreciated.

Have you looked a UHaul? I know they rent trucks that should have a tow package. Also, call the rental car companies. First trip to FW, we rented a Ford Excursion, and it had a tow package on it. We didn't use it, but it had a receiver and 2 inch ball. I don't know the rules about renting a vehicle to tow a trailer with. I am sure the rental companies would be pretty strict about what you tow. Hope this helps.

I woild have to agree that most rental co. might not allow you to tow. I have seen rather larger vehicles at Enterprise like suv's and even larger vans you might want to check there.

I would go with one of the company that will rent, deliver and set up RV's. You would save a lot of $$$$ in the long run with gas, truck rental, RV rent and time towing that I think would be your best bet.

Thank you all for your replies... I appreciate them all! I am crunching the numbers (again!) I am weighing comfort vs. cost :rolleyes1 (obvious, huh?)

#1: "Roughing it" with a tent, partial site, and cart is coming in at ~ $750 for the week.
#2: Semi-roughing it with the small camper + tents/cart is $1000 plus the cost of a tow vehicle.
#3: Renting from Tina comes in at ~ $1900 for camper, full hookup site, and cart.
#4: FW Cabins + cart = $2400

So hence my dilemma! Best of both worlds is choice #2. Camping in June is gonna be hot, hot, hot! It would be nice to have a cool spot to come back to in the afternoon. :woohoo:

If you go with #2 I would bet a tow vehicle will cost anywhere from $600-$900 for a week. I know when I rented a little car for a week it was $400

Search for Stacktester or popup rental. I think he had a popup that he rented with setup and all. Might be another option for you...

Stacktester (Donnie) is no longer on this board, but I am sure that someone has his website handy.

I agree that renting a tow vehicle will be tough to find given the restrictions contained in rental agreements. I think either of these set-up/take-down businesses will be the best choice for you.

Thank you ALL for your valued information! :grouphug: I am now hooked-up thanks to Donnie! And for a VERY reasonable price. You all are the BEST! This is now a vacation I can look forward to, instead of worrying about how to "keep cool" in the Fort... I was even contemplating making the "tent air-conditioner box"! :scared1:

You can go with opition #1 and put an A/C in you tent. I know they have discussed many times on this forum...here is one such discussion. There is also a thing call the AC Boot.

IKWYM! That is what I meant by "tent air-conditioner box".... can you tell I was getting pretty desperate? :rotfl: I am sooo glad to not have to worry any more about cooling our sleeping quarters. :yay:

If you go with with #1 you will have to to spend $500 more to sleep on the ground with A/C.
