Help Please...Need advice / recomendations for iron on transfers?

We bought Jolee's iron on transfers and the first one we did came out so bad, it went in the trash.

This is our first time and sure could use some advice on how to make the design come out right on the shirt without a bunch of extra iron on junk on it.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
