Help please--I would love to try making my own Chrsitmas cards this year!

A good friend of DH has made the best homemade Christmas cards for as long as I can remember. They look very simple, but so clever and tastefully done. I would love to try it this year, but need some help getting started or finding ideas.

Here is what I would like to attempt:

Simple, yet classy
Not "cutesy"
At least 4X6 so I can include my usual family photograph in the envelope
I would like to think about possibly ripping paper to create the card or using a simple stamp

Also, I have NO materials what so ever, so I would have to buy everything. And to make it more fun, the nearest decent craft store is about 50 minutes away.

If you Paint you can get some watercolor paper cut it up and then you could paint with some nice images on it like trees snowflakes or just an abstact blend of colors
