Well - this answer really depends on how much money you want to spend. I think the best resort for this age group would probably be the polynesian...on the monorail, great pool, lots of actiities. The Yacht Club/Beach Club has the best pool..but maybe more appreciated by older kids, and certainly not as convienent to MK. If a moderate is more in your price range I would recoment the POFQ...it is a bit smaller and has a good pool...

The Coronado Springs Resort has a great pool area (play area, sand) with slide called the Dig Site. Although it is our favorite resort out of all of the ones we have stayed at, it is a very large resort and a lot of walking is involved to get from one place to another.

We, too, have a 4 and 2 year old - girls if that makes any difference. In August we stayed at VWL. The kiddie pool is great because no need for arm floats and a few toys will do the trick for a little while too. The main pool requires an adult to be right on top of the kids. It has ladders or steps. My 4 year old went up and down the slide dozens of times and had a blast but someone had to be waiting right at the bottom for her. We've also stayed at the SSR and that zero-entry pool just can't be beat. They have two slides, one just for the little ones and one for the older kids. The main pool has a Donald Duck soft surface spray area that can be fun for a few minutes too. We walked over to the new Grand Stand pool and spray area and after about two minutes my girls got a bit bored. They also had to contend with teenagers spraying each other and running around which I thought could be a bit dangerous. The Boardwalk also has a very nice main pool with kiddie pool. That slide is only good for the bravest of 4 year olds because it is a lengthy ride down. The kiddie pool is adjacent to a soft surface playground but is smaller than the one at the WL. Didn't really care for the pools at OKW. Too much sand and not enough chairs. Good luck and enjoy your trip!

We are staying at the Beach Club Villas for the third time this December. My grandchildren are 1 and 3. The pool is great for little ones and CM play with children at the beach (pool) making sand castles. There is a lot for little ones at MGM Studies, across the water by boat from the Beach Club...JoJo, Disney Playhouse, Beauty and the Beast, Little Mermaid, and more. Pooh characters hang out there, too.

This is a view of the pool area at WL from a coutryard view room. The slide comes in at a semi shallow area making it nice for the younger set. Remember that all Disney resorts offer life jackets by their main pools for the children to use. WL offers the boat to MK, as well as access to Ft. Wilderness where you have the Hoop de Doo review and Chip & Dales marshmallow roast, along with outdoor movies during the warmer nights. I agree with Buzz about CS, though we haven't stayed there it looks like the coolest moderate pool. YC/BC is also wonderful, the pool has a sand bottom and shallow areas for sand/water play for the younger ones. A tough decision. WHen our girls were those ages we stayed pretty much exclusively at the CR, before the renovations. You have the added bonus there of walking to the MK. Good luck!

Since you will be spending most of the time at MK, the WL would be a great choice. However, the Poly would be a better choice. The monorail is so much better than the boats and with a 2 yo, the zero entry pool is fabulous. They also have a little area with water fountains in the concrete to play in as well as the beach area.

When are you planning to go?

If you are planning to go during winter time, you are not sure that you are going to use pool that much. If so, pool is not in your factor. are you thinking about renting a car? if so, transportation problem will be easier.

All disney resorts are great and kids friendly. I usually weigh on another factor like season, transportation, and of course budget.
If none of those points are in your concern, get planning DVD from Disney and watch the resort section with your family. I am sure that they have some resort matching to your family's "taste".
I also had same dilennma for upcoming trip in January. I showed my kids and my wife the DVD. Suprisingly, they chose POR. It was not my taste but kids and wife fell in love with the kind of nature/wood theme. I also showed WL because they are similar theme but they liked "motel" type resort instead of one big building type resort. the planning part is fun part of your trip. Enjoy!

If you can afford to say on the monrail ..... do it! In April we are going with a 2 and 4 year old. This time we are staying at the GF. We stayed at the Poly June 06 with a 3 and 1 year old... the monrail made a huge difference. Also, you can be close to everything in a garden view room. (We had one on the 1st floor of Roratonga.) I also throw my vote in for Coronado Springs. The Dig Site pool is incredible. There is also the sandy play area with sliding boards and giant stone sculptures that can be played on and around. My five year old son enjoyed the pool and play area this summer nearly as much as our time in the parks !

Easiest transportation around WDW, great pool for kids!

Request a room in Samoa or Rarotonga, most centrally located, closest to monorail, GCH, boat dock and buses. It is expensive; I think you pay for the convenience. Watch the codes/rates board for how to find discounts.

The problem with the Poly is that once you stay there, you will be spoiled!

No one suggested the values and not sure if you are interested, but we loved POP. VEry nicely themed for our 2 YO. They have a baby pool too. My DH did carry our DD in the big pool some, but she preferred being in the baby pool on her own.
Some people don't like the values ,but I thought they were great.
