We are planning our trip for Fall 09’. I was wanting to know about the dining shows: Hoop-Dee-Do-Revue, Disney Backyard BBQ & Disney's Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show . How was the show & food? I have never been to these and I am needing to entertain kids that during that time will be 5,8 & 14. Please share your experiences with us.

Thank you.

We did the Luau in September 2007. The food was pretty good and the show was fun. They bring all the young people up and show them how to hula during the intermission. This was fun and we will try it again. Have not done the Barbecue or the HDD.

WE love th HDDR!! We took DS's last fall and wasn't sure if they would like it...boy were we wrong! They loved it!!
I've done Spirit of Aloha...did not enjoy it and would not do again. I don't think boys would like it, or at least my boys wouldn't.

For your kid's ages, I'd recommend the HDDR. The show is really ageless and the food is good. We had such a good time.

We're going to Mickey's BBQ this trip. I've heard good things about it. What really attracted us was that they encourage the kids to participate. No assigned seating. They actually want the kids up and dancing with the characters. My DS2 will not sit for an actual show, but this is right up his alley :rotfl2: Plus unlimited beer and wine for mommy and daddy! :rotfl:

I love love love the Spirit of Aloha. The kids like it, hubby's feeling are in between mine and the kids. Being from New England, anything tropical is relaxing! Its an entertaining show w/ good food. We Always walk over to the beach after the show and watch the electric light parade.

I havent done the HDDR in a bunch of years. I wasnt crazy about it, my older son (about 12 at the time) thought it was hysterical, younger son (about 9 at the time)thought it was OK. Its kind of loud / corny humor. I did not like the food. I dont eat anything with bones and do not like strawberries. The rest of the family ate it fine, but did not rave.

Mickeys BBQ - I went here for the first time about 6 years ago. I expected to hate it. I never listen to country music and if given the choice, would not have burgers/hot dogs for dinner.

OMG....we had a blast! You sit at big picnic tables with other families. This was a plus for me..a chance to talk with other adults (kind of getting sick of just talking to hubby all week!!!) Kids talked to some of the kids at our table too. The "house" band was great. EVERYONE was dancing. If you asked me 5 minutes before I got there if I was going to get up and dance I would have said "NO WAY"...but I did!!! They taught line dances (I just watched this, but fun to watch other people make fools of themselves!!! I honestly cant believe that some people actually have NO RYTHYM at all..too funny!) and a lot of Disney characters (Mickey/Minnie/Donald/Goofy and a few more) came to sign autographs and dance with the kids. They had a special appearance by some country singer and some guy doing rope tricks with a lasso. Kids loved it, I loved it, Hubby loved it. The food was typical American BBQ, but I was having so much fun I didnt mind it at all.

Ive been back twice since. The only downer all the times Ive been was when you get there, they take a family picture (which you can purchase while youre dining). Then you stand in an area waiting to get into the show. The area is in the middle of the woods and there is a lot of bugs / mesquitos. Once in the show area, it was fine, but waiting outside was icky. Bring OFF clothes/spray when you go and youll be fine.

We did the luau in 2000 just DH and I. The show was entertaining but we did not like the food.

We just did HDDR a couple of weeks ago and loved it. The food was good and the show was great. Our boys (7 & 4) laughed the whole time and our 7 year old got to ring the dinner bell to usher everyone into dinner.
