I need opinions from my scrappin' DIS buddies (please). I'll be traveling to the World in 16 days.:banana: My DD will be marching at EPCOT.:yay: I can't decide which camera to take :confused3 On all of our other trips I have taken my DSLR (or my film SLR) and younger DD has taken her digital pocket camera. I recently bought a 10 megapixel pocket camera. I can't decide what to do, I love my DSLR,but, it is sooo heavy and truthfully when we look at pics from our 10/08 trip unless you know who took the pictures you can't tell the difference between the DSLR and the pocket camera. So what would you do? TIA-- Cheryl :goodvibes

I would take both cameras- on the day your daughter is perfroming bring the SLR to make sure you get good photos- this is expecially important if you know how to use it manually to compensate for too much or too little light- I find sometimes I need to work my digitally to get certain photos from some angles and I would hate for all the phtoso of that not to come out because of lighting issues. I would bring your other camera the rest of the time unless you are once again doing something specail.

We bring our digital SLR for most things but occasionally just have a pocket camera. I find that for dark and really bright lighting knowing how to use it can make a big difference but the rest of the time it doesn't matter at all.

That is an excellent point! I was leaning toward bringing both (the DSLR has faster shutter speeds) but, I hadn't thought about the lighting issues. Thanks ;)

Personally for me I would bring my DSL, but I love it and don't care for my point and shoot that much. I keep my point and shoot in my purse so I can catch those awesome moments without carrying the heavier DSL camera all the time.

Congratulations for DD marching at Epcot! What a terrific honor!!! :yay:

Both.

we were 2 days into a 10 day trip when our DSLR broke. We caught a cab to Ritz Camera (to the tune of $60 round trip) to buy a new one.
We've carried 2 ever since.

Both (at least!!!)

On our last trip (2005) we had a digital camera (first big outing!) and the kids had a disposable each - one day at AK we saw safari Donald on the way out and our digital was out of battery (in my defence DS(5 then) had been  the day before and it put charging out of my mind) so we had to use the disposable - so we didn't miss the shot, but it was not as good. Now we take two digitals, one with rechargeable battery, one with normal (rechargeable) batteries so we can buy batteries in an emergency.:thumbsup2

Thanks everyone! DH has been teasing me about taking both cameras, but, I definately will take both and both battery chargers ;) I would hate to miss any of DD's special moments at EPCOT.

Well... you've got your answer already, but I will say, I was going to agree with most people and say BOTH. You never know when you will have camera issues, battery issues, memory card issues.. etc. Having two cameras along bring some peace of mind.

DD and I took a once-in-a-lifetime trip (for us anyhow) to Missouri to see the Laura Ingalls Wilder Homestead (a dream of mine since childhood) and about half way through the day of visiting the homestead I dropped our digital camera and discovered (for the second time) that digital cameras don't bounce on cement.... they break. So I only have pictures from half of that trip. :headache: I did get the most important pictures, fortunately. But it was sad and frustrating not to be able to document the entire trip. Live and learn!!

Since he is teasing you, I think you should make him hold all of the camera bags. :thumbsup2 :rotfl:

Since I'm the photog I ALWAYS carry the camera bags:laughing:and it is just me & the girls on this trip DH can't get off work. I'll just have to alternate shoulders:goodvibes

Oh my goodness--we will be visiting Laura's house this summer!! I am so excited--I read all of the "Little House" books aloud to my girls when they were itty bitty and of course I also got them hooked on the reruns of the TV show. We also discovered that cameras don't bounce when we were in South Dakota ;)

OMG! I must tell Dh you can actually visit the homestead. :goodvibes We watched it as kids and I've started collecting the books
