Hello all,
some advice please,
I had booked to go to NYC for my partners birthday at the end of the month( apartment in Chelsea booked, flight paid for etc) and we have split up !- it has been on the cards for a while and i guess i was silly to book and pay for it- but hey, you live in hope!

so, my question is- should i go ahead and go on my own?.
I travel regually with just my son but never alone.
I have been in NY about 12 years ago but was with friends.

I am travelling from the UK and staying 4 nights( thur-mon)- also booked Nobu for Saturday pm and birthday cake to be delivered( you can guess what i'll be living on!!)
The tickets are non returnable and can't chnage the name( as have plenty of girlfriend who would love to come!) and would lose $200 on the apt.

I feel like i should go( pride as much as anything!) but also feel a little scard! and wonder if i will look like a sad person( sat having dinner alone etc!!)
any advice would be great
Thanks
Ruth

I would go!! You will have a great time without him, plan loads of stuff to do so that you are really busy, do loads of shopping and I bet you will hardly think of him!

You wont look sad eating on your own, NY is full of independent women and its quite common for a person to eat by themselves.

I think it would be such a shame not to go, even if you go and dont have the best time well its only for 4 days and it will pass in a flash!

Go for it :thumbsup2

you could always ask one of your girlfriends to go along with you ,if she can get her own flight , after all they would be getiing the hotel paid for

Sorry to hear about what happened, but, go, absolutely. You'll be surprised at how many people will chat to you because you are on your own, and you can do exactly what you want at any time - it's surprising how much you can do when you're by yourself.

I travelled along the East Coast from Boston through Cape Cod down to NY for 6 weeks about 8 years ago. It was one of those crazy ideas that I didn't think through very well having split up from my childhood sweetheart, but it was amazing, and you just find this inner confidence, and a huge sense of achievement.

Good luck, whatever you decide to do :sunny:

I agree with everyone else, go on your own - travelling by yourself is a fantastic thing to do and you can do what YOU want, its great. NY is a fab city and you'll find loads to fill your days and evenings

I'd try to find someone to go with me (I'm sure there's cheap flights out there) for when I was there, but actually I think you'd be fine on your own - just be sensible and keep to expensive places! Also, you could get a taxi to a retil outlet and only have yourself to please- no-one moaning they don't like that shop or there's nothing for them or they're hungry. Perfect!

I actually quite like tavelling alone (once I'm checked in) as I can read a book or whatever and not feel obliged to entertain anyone. Why not see if you can organise a DIs meet for one of the days you're there - at least you'd have help with the cake!

I have travelled alone and really enjoyed it. As it would only be for 4 nights, I am sure you would be fine. There is so much to do in NY you definitely wouldn't get bored would you!! :goodvibes

I'm sure you will enjoy it more than thinking about losing out on the cost of the trip.
Have a great time :)

I say, go for it.

My first ever holiday on my own was a short city break to New York (in fact, it was my first flight too). I was almost twenty and had ummed and aaahed about going abroad alone for ages and then I just decided, if I'm going to do it, I might as well do it in style - off the deep end and all that.

I've never looked back since. It was a fabulous trip and I just loved the total freedom. Plus New York is a wonderful city no matter how many people you are (or aren't) travelling with.
