Hello All:

Every year we go down in February, and every year I book it the summer before. This time there are not site available for my dates 2/18/18 - 2/24/18. My boys are so upset.

Can anyone offer me some advice on how to get a site? Tips/tricks?

Thanks all, I'm hopeful . . .

Bill

Hey Bill how you been?

That weekend at the end of your stay is the same time Disney is hosting The Princess Half Marathon/10k/5k which puts a squeeze on accomodations (20,000 people finished the Half in 2017). Some may be drive-in/local runners but others come in with their trailers/rv's and fill things up. Also locals fill up weekends in the spring that aren't spring break time because the weather is pretty nice. The Fort still has a fair number of long-stay snow birds too. I know the Fort fills up months in advance for early January when we do the Regular WDW Marathon weekend too.

All we can say is keep checking, keep calling.

PS - right now your dates only show Tent sites available. You can book up to 500 days/499 nights in advance so if your boys are in school, book as soon as the school calendar is published for the coming year. I know my local system would finalize and publish the school calendar in February for the coming August-May school year. We would book our March spring break trips then which ended up being a year in advance.

Thanks Ed. Yes, the agents told me about the half marathon. Have you ever heard of anyone getting a spot by checking daily? Lol, I guess I'm just looking for some hope.

I didn't know about the 500 days - thanks for that info,

Bill

I scored a site over Halloween by checking regularly - I think you could probably piece together a reservation :)

You never know, people have until 30 days to cancel without penalty. As people get snowed in up north, they may have to cancel.

Good luck Bill! We have put together full vacations by booking several days at a time and I feel confident that your good luck will continue to get you the rest of your desired reservation.

Bill, glad you got most of what you were looking for.

Also for those reading, the 500/499 rule applies to the checkout day of your visit. So if you want to book 7 days at the max window then your checkin day must be day 493 and checkout day be day 500. And sometimes WDW is a little slow loading inventory right on the ragged edge of a deadline (same thing with day 180 on ADR's). But that's the general rule. In other words, your entire stay must fit within a 500 day window.

I will add from my recent experience. Disney is often a few days behind as Ed mentioned. Don't get discouraged. I've talked with the CMs at length about the 499/500 thing. They would ring up guest services while on the phone with me and open up more inventory on occasion. Other times they would tell me to call back in a few days. I eventually got all 21 nights I was seeking for a Christmas trip in 2018.

Have you ever heard of anyone getting a spot by checking daily?

Hope that a contestant pulls a tendon during practice and backs out.
:cool1:

NOTE: Out advice to ANYONE trying to reserve a campsite is to book 499 days in advance. The place is becoming just too popular among campers/RVers.
