Hey guys...I had planned on booking our resort this week (we're going in June). I keep reading about codes and I think I understand how to use them now but what I don't understand is when someone writes: "book now and wait for the codes."

Does this mean I can go ahead and book now at rack rates and then when and if codes for my resort come out I can call back and get the reduced rate?

I hadn't booked yet because I kept reading about the codes but figured they just didn't have any. I am soooooo confused!!

Also, where do I get the codes? I figured I'd read about them here on this board, is that right? Or will they be in my local newspaper? Thanks for the help in advance!

Yep, that's right, you can book now and then call back when a code comes out and have it applied to your reservation so that you'll get the code rate, but you'll be sure you have the room you want. Codes can be found in the newspapers, www.moussavers.com, and people post them here too.

I was just about to ask the same question. Thanks for the info.

I just thought of another question. HOw much before do the codes usually come out. For example, if you are not planning to travel until November, when would you really start checking out mousesavers for codes?

I would like to ask - Would it be recommended to book your vacation based on where you would HOPE to stay, such as a deluxe and if a code comes out for that resort then you can call and apply that code to the reservation you already have? Or you book where you would stay if you were unable to get a discount and call and change to a deluxe when the code comes out? If that was the case isn't it possible that you could be too late in getting the discount for the deluxe if you already have the moderate. If you already have booked a deluxe do you need to rush the call in with the code to apply it to the reservation you already have? That would apply to applying the code to the reservation you already have with a moderate. Boy, am I making any sense?

No difference at all.

Let's see if this makes sense....

First and foremost, make sure you are booking though CRO!! Not WDTC! If they mention the word "package" and tell you that you have to be paid in full before you arrive and that you have to cancel way ahead of time.... say, "no thank you", hang up and start over. Make sure you are talking to Central Reservations. Stress you want "room only", with a five day cancel policy. If the CM is new, they may tell you there is "no such thing". Try calling at a less busy time of day.

When you call with a code and already have a ressie at that hotel, just give your confirmation number and tell them you would like to apply the discount code. If there is availability (enough rooms at THAT rate) you will get the code. Since you already paid a deposit for one night, the difference is just credited to your balance.

When I CHANGE hotels, I don't even mention the previous ressie that I have. I just secure the reservaton I want with the code and before I hang up, I tell them that I want to cancel a ressie. I give them that confirmation #, cancel it and my depost goes back on my credit card. When I get my cc statement, I simpy show a debit for my new ressie and a credit for the old one. I would rather do this , than have them "transfer"money. I have read too many stories about problems with that.
