I am freaking out. Tonight I have an eye Dr. appointment. Me and the kids... Kids are easy checking vision.

I am scared as I have not been to a real eye Dr in over 10 years!! Problem is I am -9 nearsightedness and have been wearing contact since 14, I am 45. and my mom has had Glaucoma since she was 40.

I have been pushing this off for years, but lately I have not been able to "self" prescribe" my contact strenght when buying online. I also noticed dryiness and the need for reading glasses..

I did go an optometrist or Optican,,, the person who can do glasses/contact exams but not medical about twice the past 10 years to get new glasses.. One did mention I showed stratches on the lense ?? Not sure 100% but my eye for the vision test showed no real red flags..

So my mom is calling me daily telling me to do the pressure test with the drops not the puff of air for Glaucoma etc... So I will do that..

I am just nervious there is someting wrong with me eyes and I cannot wear contacts anymore, that is worse case for me....

Just wondering besides saying I have glaucoma and risk for blindness what else as a contact wearer can go wrong? I wear soft for 10 hours a day and really dont have issues.

Going to this doctor will be the best thing for you

Write your questions out before you go
Have the doc read them and go thru and explain everything with you during the exam

wishing you the best !

I just went Monday.

Sometimes I get the same way about doctor's visits. Blood work. Etc. I like to avoid the possibility that they might find something. Yet as I get older, I realize this is part of life. And usually, my worrying has been for nothing. If there aren't any symptoms, it's likely there is nothing.

I wore contacts for years, and I found over time, my tear ducts didn't produce as many tears, and wearing them became more and more uncomfortable. There's probably nothing you are fretting about that isn't normal. I hope your appointment goes well. Don't be afraid to share your concerns with your eye doctor. That's important.

My husband is an optometrist and really stresses the need to check the health of your eyes and not just your vision (acuity). I'm not sure how you got the correct contact lenses all those years without a proper eye exam.

Good for you to go today and overcome your fears. Hopefully you will get all good news. Going blind would be a lot worse than not being able to wear contacts.

Isn't worse case for you not addressing an issue and going blind?

Regular check ups at an eye doctor are not a big deal.

I don't wear contacts, so forgive me if I'm wrong here - but how are you able to purchase contacts for years on end without a viable RX?
I know my eye glasses RX can't be more than 2 years old, I guess I presumed the same for contacts?

I live in Germany and here you can order contacts online. Most people go to an optometrist ( not MD) get an eye exam and have the measurements needed. I was there about 3-4 yrs ago. A true medical eye exam has been forever.

Prescriptions for contacts are only good for one year, in my experience.

Ah, ok. Thanks for the clarification!
Good luck with the Dr., I'm sure you'll be glad once you are done with it.

Contact prescriptions are 1 year.

How have you gotten contact lenses all these years without going to the doctor?
Just saw the answer.
You are worried they may find something wrong but the only way to know is go.

Well I here in the waiting room. This is worse than the dentist. 😩

Contact prescriptions are 1 year.
Both my boys wear contacts - they are able to order contacts for 2 years with the RX they have. Oh well - perhaps it varies from state to state? Regardless, OP good luck to you today.

Yes, you can, if you order towards the end of the prescription year, that will get you two years contacts from the same prescription. I choose not to do that.

It's the internet. There isn't a company I've tried that doesn't contact your doctor to make sure you've had an exam within the past 12 months before sending you an order.

Nope. They ordered them about a year and a half after the visit. RX says expired 2 years.
