I need some opinions here....My DS 7 says he wants a DSi. Upon questioning him, he admits that he only wants it for the camera in it and NOT to play video games. He isn't a "gamer" kind of kid so I thought that would be the case. I am trying to talk him into just asking Santa for a camera with some cool computer software to use to manipulate the pics the way he wants but he isn't buying it so far. My question is this....for anyone who has the DSi already, is the camera on it a good one? Is the resolution clear? I am really thinking he would like just a regular camera better....

My next question is this. My DS10 says he wants a PSP. He is a big gamer and LOVES his DS and Wii. I am trying to talk him into a DSi because he already has tons of DS games but he insists on wanting a PSP. Who out there has both and what are the pros with going for a PSP?

Thanks so much to my budget board friends for any suggestions or comments, negative or positive, that you can give me!!!

You can kids can "ask" all they want. As a parent, you know what will be better for the long haul. I do agree with your assessment.:thumbsup2

They are getting older and it is time to put the hammer down. It really starts to get nuts with buying electronics that are tossed aside and you have wasted your money. Ask me how I know.:rolleyes1

My 14yodd wants a laptop, Photoshop, anything to do with graphic video production. Guess what, that stuff is too expensive! I told her that she will have to wait until she is 16 and working to buy that stuff for herself.

Right now she will have to suffer with her own desktop and Microsoft and GIMP (free video software).

My son- 12 bought a ipod touch with his birthday money. It gets played from more than Ds or PSP. Plus he can watch movies, download new games, etc.
We are looking at getting our daughter,9 one for Christmas.

Agree. My son (13) has a DS and a PSP, and he doesn't play either now that he has an ipod touch. The best part - Apps are generally just a couple bucks each!

With that said, if it's between a DSi or a PSP for the 10 year old, as they get older, it seems they tend to outgrow the DS and prefer the PSP. It's got better graphics and games. I think it was around that age that DS started asking for the PSP.

my dd7 has the dsi and she uses the camera more than she uses the games! She loves it.. she also uses the voice recorder!
