Help, now that I have made a start on my comitment to loose weight I have just realised that DS confirmation is just around the corner and I really don't want to cheat too badly so early on, so has anyone any lowfat healthy nibbles for a party, in particular dips as I just love sticks of veggies, peppers etc. but they would be even better with a tasty low fat dip! or two!!

Veggies dipped in salsa are yummy!

You can make a good dip by mixing a carton of fat-free sour cream with an envelope of Hidden Valley Fat-Free Ranch Dip mix. (It's best if you mix it, then let stand in the refrigerator for a few hours.)

I also like to combine these two - stir a little mild salsa into the fat-free ranch dip.

How about making a shrimp dip using low fat mayo? You could mince the cooked shrimp, squeeze a bit of lemon on it, add a dash of hot sauce, a little chopped onion and some low fat mayo (enough to bind the dip but not make it too mayo-ish!) ;) Maybe serve with some thin slices of toasted french bread?

Sliced fruit with a lowfat sweet dip. I think we have made something using cool whip (don't know if you have this over there) mixed with lowfat vanilla yogurt.

This is a little salad I am going to make for DH to take to work with his lunch. If you don't have Splenda, you could use something like sweet and low (this is from the WW site):

1 1/2 cup cucumber(s), thinly sliced
1 1/2 cup tomato(es), Roma or other fresh variety, sliced or cubed
1/2 cup onion(s), chopped
2 Tbsp Splenda No Calorie Sweetener
1/2 cup red wine vinegar
1/2 cup water
1 tsp dried dill weed

Instructions

Place cut up vegetables into a glass bowl.

Mix remaining ingredients and pour over vegetables.

Refrigerate at least one hour (longer is better).

Serve with a slotted spoon so that liquid remains in the bowl. Yields about 2/3 heaping cup per serving.

Good luck!

Thanks for that salad idea, I'm going to make that over the weekend and have it as a side with my lunch next week. DH won't eat it, but it sounds great.

Vegetables marinted in FF Italian dressing is really good.

Take a can of black beans a jar of salsa an mix them together with a handful of low fat shredded cheese. Makes a great Black bean dip. I actually put my salsa through the blender to get it smooth then add the beans and pulse so they get borken up but nor smooth. Yummy

Jar os salsa lof fat or fat free cream cheese. 8ounces of cream chees. Put both in blender til smooth. Makes a great taco.

Cubes of chees and turkey peperoni with crckers

Fresh fruits and veggies

I can probably come up with some more as well Just need to think about it.. Let me know if you want more Ideas!!!

Thanks for the great ideas, I am making 2 list one of recipes and one a shopping list so that I don't forget anything, may have to change some of the ingrediants a little as some things maynot be available here in the UK but am really looking forward to trying some new ideas
