Does anyone have sky broadband? Im thinking of maybe switching to them in a bid to save a bit more money to fund my Disney trips!!!
However i dont really know very much about any of these so im look for some advise please.

Im currently with BT, option2 which is £22.99 per month. Ive looked at the Sky packages and the closest one to that is £5 per month plus the activation fee of £30.

It says i have to have a BT line in order to have Sky Broadband but what i wasnt sure is do i have to have a BT line that is seperate to my BT phone line? Or can it be the same line?

It can be the same line, Laura.

I know of at least 3 people who are on Sky broadband and regret it as they have had nothing but problems. One person has problems connecting and he was without internet for over a month even though they charged him for it.

My cousins bf is having problems with it at the moment to.

We were going to go over to Sky broadband, they offered it to us when it first came out, it seemed a great deal but when we phoned up they said it would be at least 45 days before they could come and install and this would be after we supplyed them with the code to release us from our current service provider. They may have sped it up now but we went to Virgin media for £10/month and have has no complaints so far.

Exactly same situation with me. I even supplied them with the MAC code and still no joy as there's some sort of technical Broadband supplier glitch on my line. :confused3 According to BT, the only way to fix it is to cancel my line and get re-connected  so in the end I opted for Virgin Media too...

Same line, my 3 friends in work have changed over to Sky Broadband and all say its great, and they are still trying to convince me to do the same, they are only paying £5.00 per month, however Im always worried if I change, I wont be able to install it properly and it wont work :)

Story of my life, Sue! It took me forever to get the whole wireless broadband thing sorted and then my DS comes home from Uni (how very dare he!) and messes about with my system so he can get online too. Needless to say everything crashed and I just wanted to throttle him. He's sorted it now but I swear it's not as wonderfully fast as it was before... :sad2:

I have Sky broadband. After I supplied them with the MAC code from BT it took them 8 weeks and 2 days to connect me!!! It was just awful being without the internet for so long. However..... I can really say that I am happy with it now, it is very fast. It was a purely finncial decision for me. The See, Speak, Surf package (with options) costs me £31 a month plus £11 BT line rental. I was almost triple this for sky, BT calls and BT internet before.

I guess you always get good and bad with every package, my parents have had nothing but problems with Virgin Media, constantly being disconnected etc.

Personally ive never had any problems with BT...its purely a financial decision!

I have a few friends who have Sky Broadband but have the Top package and they think its wonderful.

I think im just a bit skeptical - knowing my luck if i change it somethings going to go wrong!

As you said there is the good & bad. One of the main decisions to change was that Virgin is cable so it is faster & BT are not upgrading the lines where we live for a longtime therefore it would always be slower and they were cheaper then Orange.

We changed from telewest now virgin media to sky broadband last december and we have had no problems at all you have the same bt phone line as your phone.

I'm on Sky broadband too....

I know some people have had problems but its been OK for me. Unfortunately, I think the support is up to Skys usual customer service standard (i.e rubbish).

There is a good support site run by users though - www.skyuser.co.uk (you'll find me on there occasionally)

One thing to be aware of - just because it says 16Meg connection doesnt mean you'll get this. Depends how far you live from local phone exchange etc. - I only get 2.8Meg... Not Skys fault nothing they can do about it...
