HELP needed with Nikon D3000

Help! My friend was just given a Nikon D3000 with no instruction manual. I have been able to print out a basic cheat sheet and told her where to find on on Amazon. I think I could figure it out better for her if I could see the display on the LCD screen. I am a Canon person so everything about this camera is a little different for me. IS there a way to view the screen/take pictures using the screen? Right now we can only shoot thru the view finder. I've tried to look thru the manual online, but haven't had any luck. Can anyone help? Please?

I have the D7000 but had the chance to use a friend's D3000 during an outing. If I remember correctly it doesn't have the Live View feature so you're stuck with the viewfinder.

Added: Double-checked the feature set online and it does lack Live View. Sorry.
