Hello

I have a canon 500D which came with the standard lense. We are looking for a zoom, or so I thought and have been looking at this http://www.jacobsdigital.co.uk/p-37...a-50-200mm-f4-56-dc-os-hsm-canon-eos-fit.aspx

Then I started looking at this wide angled zoom http://www.jacobsdigital.co.uk/p-38508-jacobs-digital-sigma-18-200mm-f35-63-dc-canon-eos-fit.aspx

We are cruising this summer and I think a wide angle will be better than a zoom.

I get really confused with all the lenses and specification, despite reading and reading the web.

Anyone else got any recommendations. Next year we were going to buy a wide angled lense for the rides and fireworks. Something like this http://www.jessops.com/online.store/products/12878/show.html

I don't want to spend a fortune, and we are not David Bailey types, we just want some nice photo's.

So I suppose my question is would we get more use out of a wide angle or a zoom? We will be at WDW next year.

Don't get those Sigma lens! They are some of the worst lens according to the ratings at http://www.photozone.de
A wide angle lens for your camera is actually a different focal range, e.g. Canon 10-20 Sigma 10-20 or Tokina 11-16
You would probably get more use out of good but inexpensive telephoto lens like the Canon 55-250IS since you already have the 18-55IS which is wide enough for most situations

Maybe look into the Canon 18-135mm, if you don't like switching lenses. That will be wide enough to suit most your needs.

I have a Tamron 18-270 which stays on my 7D most of the time. You might also look at the 70-300 lens to give you some more reach since you already have the 18 for the wide end.

I'd say the Tamron 18-270 would be a great bet for you. If you're looking for more specialized lenses, check out the link in my signature!
