We are coming to visit San Diego and plan on taking a trip to DLand. We are DWorld vets and I have been on 1 trip to Dland. Any suggestions on a 1 day itinerary. There will be 4-6 adults(resident socal family may go with us) 3 children - 6 and 4 yr old girls. My girls love Aurora and cannot wait to see her castle but I need help on everything else. We are tentatively planning on spending the night, we will be staying with family in SanDiego. Please way in on the day of the week to visit as well, we are currently looking at Monday or Tuesday July 20 or 21. Thanks to all who reply.

I'm thinking that with the girls you may want to head to Fantasyland first. In which case, you should go on Monday because Tuesday is a Magic Morning and FL will already be busy by the time you are allowed in. If you get there first thing on Monday morning you can get in some good FL rides, then head over the castle. If you dont' plan to do big rides you can pick up a FP for Buzz Lightyear. If those who are tall enough want to try Indiana then someone should run over and get FPs for that ride. Maybe go to Small World after FL. If the kids are brave enough :) you can do haunted mansion and pirates in the afternoon.

Of course there is Toon Town also... Possibly after Small World? With the kids and one day I would figure out what the priorities are and start with those.

I know it is a long drive, but if you get there at opening, you'll get in some good ride time before it gets too crowded.

Well, let me ask this: are you intending/hoping to do both DL and DCA in one day? I think you should! Many will disagree with me, but since you are really not going to have time to do everything at Disneyland itself anyway, you might want to consider doing what I call a 'highlight tour' and seeing both DL and DCA. Now many will say that you can't do both parks in one day because you can't do everything in both parks in one day - or even two days - but you don't necessarily need to do everything, especially if you have been to WDW, and a one-day highlight tour of both parks is definitely possible with some carefully thought-out planning. In fact, my friend from Georgia was out here last year - also in July - and she was initially intending to only go to DL, but I convinced her to work DCA into the schedule too, to be able to ride Toy Story, Monsters Inc., Soarin', A Bug's Land, King Triton's Carousel, etc. She LOVED DCA and was so glad they fit it into the day. The two parks are right across the esplanade from each other, so it takes literally 2 minutes to walk from one to the other. And DCA is not nearly as large as DL so it is possible to get in and out of DCA in just a few hours. Also, DCA will be changing significantly over the next few years - the changes are underway now - so it might be interesting to see it in its current format because a lot of it will be gone by 2012. Would any of the little ones in your group be interested in dining with the Princesses at Ariel's Grotto (Aurora is there too)? That is over in DCA!

But whether or not you decide to do both DL and DCA or only DL, one important thing is to get to DL (which opens before DCA) when the gates open. Summer is very busy and it can get very hot out in the California sun by mid-day. Try to hit things with crazy lines like Nemo early on, and of course rides such as Peter Pan are extremely popular. ToonTown gets busy early on too, but seeing as this ToonTown is different than the one in WDW, I think it is worth seeing. Roger Rabbit is a fun ride! Collect Fast Passes, as Pink Budgie said. That will save time, and if you decide to eat in DL, DCA, DTD or one of the 3 hotels, make sure you make a PS (the DLR equivalent of ADR) to cut down on wait time. The main idea - whether you do one park or two - is to maximize time for activities and cut down on wait time, so you need to get to DLR as early as possible and stay as late as possible. Sometimes when DL gets really crowded, people escape over to DCA to get away from the throngs of people because it is less packed and easier to walk around.

Where will you "spend the night"?

I highly recommend trying to stay "on site" & visiting on Tuesday so you can enjoy MM early the next morning. (or better yet, strech it out to two or three days ;))

What attractions do you "have to see".....which ones do you want to skip?

I also recommend a park hopper, which would allow you flexibility in your touring. But most importantly....get to the parks 40 min. prior to opening (or MM opening if you have MM privlidges).

My one day trip report (in the link below) gives you an idea of what can be done in one day ..... but it was with my DS 9 & we enjoy commando'ing.

Have a great time planning a visit to Walt's park. :thumbsup2

:)

I guess it depends what it is you guys like to do for rides. Because you have younger kids, breaking into 2 groups might work better for you guys. Starting off in Fantaisy Land where the younger kid rides are while the adults do Indiana jones and the Pirates, Haunted mansion? Staying all together would be fine as well as even the Fantaisy Land rides are great for the grown up kids.

Star Tours as well as Buzz Lightyear are fantastic rides. It's a small world is absolutely awesome! so don't miss out on that.

I strongly suggest walking over to California Adventures to watch Aladdin tho. A pain in the butt because its not in the same park but an absolutely incredible show, a must do for both the kids and the grown up kids.

Good Luck :bride:

I'm with Hound...if you're thinking of spending the night (a good idea, that ride home is very long when everyone's tired) you might as well go the next day, too. :)

Our first two trips as adults were one-day'ers, and we skipped DCA and lived to regret that so much! It's absolutely our fave park....on our recent visit we kept escaping the madness of DL to get to the wonderful feeling of DCA. It was our escape hatch.

Even if you only do one day, getting there EARLY is key. The *only* reason we had a good first visit was b/c of a huge downpour of rain that started in San Diego and got worse as we went north. The parks were rainy and empty, and we had things to ourselves until after noon, which was good b/c we didn't get there until after 10, b/c my wonderful beautiful sweet SLEEPY SIL wouldn't get up. If that rain hadn't happened, we wouldn't have had a great visit. So get there before the parks open.
