Help - Need to Sell, sad tale ..

How stupid I was not to recognize such a problem would/could occur?

No real advice, and you've already gotten better advice than I could give you anyhow, but I just wanted to ask you to please not beat yourself up about not thinking about reselling before. Almost no one who buys a timeshare thinks about that until they have to; probably an even smaller percentage consider it before buying DVC; so why get mad at yourself for being human? :upsidedow

Best of luck to you.

Definitely. My FIL passed away suddenly a few years back, and one of the things we dealt with was his RV "timeshare". It actually passed along two generations after him, and if any of his kids wanted the thing it was us, but no thought had been given as to how his kids would pay the dues. Sadly, at that time, no one could find the money, and the dues were due in only 2 months, and we had to give up the timeshare to the company for *nothing*. (don't think DVC has a provision for this but they did)

It's not something most people are thinking of.

You're worried about it selling, but if *nothing* were selling, the resale companies wouldn't have the money to advertise on the Dis, or to pay their people! So things are selling, and I expect yours will too. Best of luck!

 I'm so sorry for your medical troubles, I have found the same troubles in our family, as I have developed muscular dystrophy. It's one of those things none of us planned for, and we also found that our DVC isn't a "gift" if you have to pay dues when you don't have the money.

I worked with David on renting the points on one of my contracts. You just sign a contract stating how many points you want to rent, he makes all the arrangements, then emails you when someone wants points. It's up to you to call MS for the dates someone wants, and then let David know. A couple of days later, you have 1/2 the money! You might want to just do this rather than sell your contract. Your responsibility takes only about 15 minutes or so of your time, and you are $1000 or more, richer than you were before. I was amazed by how easy this was, compared to renting the points myself. He gives you $10 per point. I'm sure that with your husband's stroke you could use the money, and it really is so easy to do.....since the price for points is down right now, it might be the best thing for you to do.

I agree with PP's. You are in such a STRESSFUL situation right now. I can see why you just want to sell quickly. But, you've been an owner for 20 years. If you find it possible to use your membership again in a couple of years it will cost you a lot to get back in. Contact David and see what happens. I wish I needed points, I would rent from you! I wish you and your husband the best.

Just adding my :grouphug: What a shock for all of you!

Not to be Pollyanna here, but I have seen stroke victims who have made remarkable progress over time. It's a lot of work, but substantial recovery is possible and even probable for many, many people who suffer strokes. If you're interested, there may be Disney trips in your husband's future yet!
