Help - Need to Know if Dennis Closed Parks

I was down there for the past 12 days. All of the parks were in fact open. Was a little windy when it was movng up the coast, but we still were able to go to the parks and lay by the pools and get tan :sunny:

The quote from the weather channel on Friday night was "Dennis will be bringing a lot of wind and rain to the Tampa and Central Florida area. If you're planning to go to the parks, I wouldn't go." Which to me, was the casters own opinion. For myself I said YIPPIE the parks will be deserted!

We left on the 10th and the hurricane had not closed anything up to that point. How terrible to ruin a child's trip. Oh and the parks were empty on Saturday we walked onto everything on Saturday morning and then the sun came out....

I wasn't there but Disney World has only closed twice in the history of its existance, if I remember correctly. Once for Hurricane Georges and the second on September 11th. The hurricane didn't even last a week in the South. It lasted really for 1-1 1/2 days max. If Disney were to be closed for a week, they would lose WAAAY too much money.
We were there for Hurricane Frances last summer and WDW closed for 2 days, if I'm remembering correctly. I remember there being a mandatory curfew for something like 24+ hours from a Saturday late morning till Sunday mid-afternoon.

We were there for Georges but I don't remember it closing. But we were there with my parents who were panicking about the hurricane and their grandchildren and Mom and Dad made us leave Orlando! (They paid for the entire family to go, 9 of us.)

WDW did shut down for Hurricane Jeanne last September. I believe it closed early on Saturday the 25th and was closed all or most of the day on the 26th.

But I have not heard anything about the parks closing for Dennis. Shame on that mother...

I believe WDW closed twice last year alone...for Hurricanes Charley and Francis.

As for the OP's question, WDW did not close for Hurricane Dennis. How awful for that poor child!

Oh that's right, I had forgotten about Jeanne!

The parks were closed last year on the Sunday that Hurricane Jeanne came through, we were there. BUT, they only closed early on Saturday night (I think 7 pm) and all day on Sunday, and that was all. There were some attractions that were still closed on Monday for cleanup (Jungle Cruise was one), but not anything major.

How terrible to do that to a child, her own or someone else's! I would be furious if my child was promised a vacation then lied to and used for free labor/help/whatever you want to call it.

That's what I was thinking. Shame on her! :sad2:

The parks did not close for Hurricane George. Prior to last year the parks had only closed twice, once on 9/11 and also for Hurricane Floyd in 1999. Last year the parks closed for Hurricanes Jeanne, Charley, and Frances. That brings the total up to 5 times the parks have been closed. Epcot was also closed a sixth time due to a small backstage fire that wiped out power to most of the park in 2002.

That said the parks did not close for Hurricane Dennis.

We were there July 6-12. None of the parks closed due to weather. In fact, it rained much less this year than on previous trips.

We were there the 5th-11th and in the parks the days that Dennis was affecting the Orlando area the most - the weekend of the 9/10th and no problems. It rained heavily a couple of times on Saturday but then stopped. It barely rained at all on Sunday.

Believe me - if the weather had been that bad we would not have gone into the parks! They were open! Poor kid! :guilty:

Ok....I realize it is none of my business but I'm dying to know the details...did this parent send their kid to Florida with a friend or relative and were promised a day or 2 in WDW and it never happend???

 :rolleyes1

I was in Orlando in 1999 during Floyd. We flew in the day before it went by. AK was open to onsite guests only the day after. Last year, I flew in right after Francsis. I had to delay my trip a couple of days (Was supposed to fly in the day it hit). By the time I arrived all the parks were reopened.

I didn't want to say anything, but . . . .I've been waiting, too and checking for updates! :guilty:

We were there from July1-15 and the parks WERE NOT closed....I know that one day there was a lightning advisory on the news....lots of lightning strikes were reported but the parks didnt close. I think that is a terrible thing to tell a child..........
