Was anyone down at WDW, Universal, SeaWorld, et al during Hurricaine Dennis? My 11-year old god-son went down to Florida to visit a friend and these parks, and instead spent the entire week working on the mother's house and babysitting while being told all the parks were closed due to the hurricaine.

I doubt this is true, but want to have my facts straight and would really appreciate any info. Thanks!

I would doubt very seriously that they were closed.

I arrived at Disney Friday the 8th and none of the parks closed the whole time I was there.

None of the Disney Parks were closed due to Dennis, as he was not a threat. I do know that the weather channel told people not to go. *grin*

Dennis was no where near Central Florida, so no, the parks would NOT have been closed.

What a terrible thing to do to a child! Not that I am totally up to date on everything that goes on in Orlando, I didn't see any mention of the parks closing or even that the hurricane went anywhere near the parks.

They did not close.

Some attractions may have, as we did get quite a bit of rain from the extreme outer edges of the storm, but thats IT. No wind, a lot of rain, no closures.

UH OH! Someones in TROUBLE!!!!!

I was at MK on Saturday. The park was open and they had regular hours.

MK was uncrowded. Until about 5 pm, it was dry, not too humid and there was a pleasant light breeze.

At 5 pm, a band of severe weather came through. For a period of 15 minutes there was very high winds (60 mph+) and very heavy rain. There were thunderstorms for a couple hours after that. All of the outside rides were closed because of lightning for a short period of time. I assume they reopened after the lightning passed.

"It's time to say goodbye to Mickey!", whoops, I mean "It's time to say goodbye to the MOTHER!"

I just want to confirm that the Weather Channel did advise people not to go to any of the parks.

They did not say avoid them all week though.

One thing i have learned from the weather channel is that they are MUCH less correct about an area's local conditions than your local weather teams, but that should be expected.

During Hurricanes (of which we do experience here), we flip FROM the weather channel and ONLY watch local weather.

Just to note: in Southwest Florida, NBC-2's weather team and Fox 4's weather team join forces and create one team during hurricane threats. They throw competition out the window and both broadcasts are shown together non-stop.

Last year during Charlie, they actually predicted the last minute turn towards land at SW Florida before even the National Hurricane Center did, possibly saving MANY MANY lives. Very commendable.

Gee, we had friends who evacuated from the Destin area TO the parks to avoid Dennis.

Dennis was not a problem for the parks. I don't think they were closed at all and certainly not the entire week. Sounds like that parent wanted free labor

I was at the parks from July 6-13 and none of the parks closed except for Blizzard beach one afternoon. It only rained twice the whole time we were there and that was only for a couple hours both times. :flower:

I wasn't there but Disney World has only closed twice in the history of its existance, if I remember correctly. Once for Hurricane Georges and the second on September 11th. The hurricane didn't even last a week in the South. It lasted really for 1-1 1/2 days max. If Disney were to be closed for a week, they would lose WAAAY too much money.

Living in central Florida, I can say for sure that the parks were not closed. The weather was maybe a bit rough for a short time, but not much more than some of the usual storms we get around here. Heck, it mostly just rained and where I live not much lightening either. Nothing they would close the parks over.
