After 2 months of investigating, I can't seem to find how to download from my JVC camcorder with DV (firewire 4peg, i think) output to MacBook with USB ports. Camcorder is about 6 years old DV tape media.

Any ideas? MacBook running iMovie '08.

Thanks.

My guess is that you won't be able to do it. The new MacBooks (as in the unibody ones released just over a week ago) do not have Firewire ports. My experience with cameras that have Firewire ports is that they require Firewire ports as there are no cables to convert from Firewire to USB. If you are going to be using the new computer for video quite often you may want to think about returning the MacBook and getting the 13-inch MacBook Pro, it has Firewire 800.

Check this Mac page to see if your camera is supported by iMovie.

If it is, open iMovie, plug in your camera, it should detect it.

If not, I've been checking out some video capture methods for older cameras, found some that are Mac supported but they put your movies in itunes not iMovie so no possibility to edit.
