Help: Need Stroller to Hold 75lb child for Disney Trip

Do you have a younger child as well? I think that the older one would probably be fine just jumping in for a few minutes here and there while the younger one gets a chance to stretch his or her legs.

I have twins that are 4 and an older daughter who is seven. We have a maclaren double stroller that we bring places for the twins (DS is autistic and will use the stroller to "hide" from crowds and noise). My younger daughter will sit with her twin most of the time but she likes to get out and walk and my oldest will take the opportunity to hop in and ride. It works out well and that's our plan for WDW on our next trip. Oldest DD does have asthma and can sometimes get wiped out really easily and if she does then we will just suck it up and rent a stroller for her but I think we may be okay with just the one and the kids taking turns.

If that doesn't work for you I'd probably look into one of the offsite rental places. I wouldn't buy one only for WDW unless you can find a good deal secondhand or through ebay

Unless your child has a specific medical condition that she might need a stroller in your day to day activities, I would *not* purchase one just for Disney. The weight limit needed puts you in the range of special needs strollers, which is why they are so expensive. Nobody buys these things unless they *have* to.

You could rent a special needs stroller, say a Maclaren Major from some of the medical supply places that rent wheelchairs & scooters. I've also seen that orlandostrollerrentals.com also now has a special needs stroller that might suit your needs. Good luck. Have a good trip.

They do make jogging strollers for up to 75 lbs. that are not special needs strollers.

Thank you so much for your assistance. Although she is 8 she has already told us that she doesn't want to walk all day. I am going to get her into walking. She is a pre-comp swimmer....not a walker...lol

Just wanted to second the poster who recommended orlando stroller rental. We used them and it was fabulous. And personally, I don't care if you have a stroller for an 8 yo. You're entitled to do whatever you want...

Thank you, I am going to check out this place. This just isn't for her. We don't want to lug around a backpack all day either...lol

Look at my BIG child in a stroller on a hot August day...:rotfl2:

LMAO LMAO LMAO!! It took me a second to see the stroller! :lmao:

I've pushed my 8 year old around in our maclaren without any problems, but she only weighs around 60 lbs. I know they are only supposed to be up to 55, but no problems with it at all.

My DD would NEVER have gotten in a stroller at 8, she mostly walked the parks at 6, but we pushed the stroller just in case. We always had her start walking the dogs with us a few months before we left so she was used to walking. Are you sure your child would even get in one???

I didnt' read through this whole thread, but at that age I'd suggest renting on an "as needed" basis. Perhaps when you know you will be at Epcot for an entire day, then rent one. But if you're just hitting MK for a half day, then don't rent.

As far as buying, we own a Baby Jogger City Series double and it's a GREAT jogger. I think the joggers in general hold more weight. So maybe you can find a used jogger.....?

I have a 7 yr old and there is no way I could get her into a stroller. IMO**Mean mom alert!**I would not fork out that money just because my child didnt want to walk. We would be rethinking our trip. My motto is, if you dont wanna walk then we dont need to be there. Think about the other things you could do with that money. Besides I think it would be more of pain int he rear because if she is anything like my older children they have to be right up in the action. I think she would spend more time out if it than in it.:confused3

anyway have you considered a wagon? Dont know if you can take them in the park, if so its definatly cheaper.

cant take a wagon into disney. they dont allow it..
but i agree with the pp .. i would not allow a 75 lbs child to ride in a stroller..
thats like the 5 year old with a bottle or binky..:scared:
we took my son when he was 4 and he walked most of the time. at the end of the night i will admit he was sleep and he rode my husbands shoulders.

When is your trip? I would check out the stroller swaps. I don't know how to link but, "tinkerbelle sized stroller swap" has a jog stroller that has a weight limit of #75. Check it out :)

We went when the kids were 5 and 6. DD was probably close to 75 lbs then. We rented a double stroller for one day at Animal Kingdom in the middle of the stay. My kids had no problem hopping in and out of it and it carried my backload of water and stuff too. They are now 7 and 8 and I'm pretty sure they would ride in one again- heck dd still begs to ride in the back of the buggy at stores.

hahaha, mine does too. She doesn't like to be tired and I don't like to carry everything all day long...a win win for both of us...

I think if you decide for that age the rent on demand would work. DHS and AK are fairly compact. And you will be sitting through shows at both of these. You could rent for Epcot and I think MK too. That way you are looking at 2 or 3 days rental.

I don't know anything about strollers, sorry! However, my suggestion would be that if you can't find one big enough, maybe just plan on renting one every other day, or only if needed. For example, some days you may not be walking around as much if you have some sit-down meals planned, or you take a midday break. Other days you might be going for hours. Renting would be easier than dragging one down there, I would think.

Another suggestion would be to tell your child if she doesn't need to rent a stroller, she can have the stroller money for spending money that day! :)

Enjoy your trip!
I also like the spending money idea, but I would do it a little differently

The child has the $10 or whatever at the start if the day. If he/she goes all day without a stroller, that becomes the spending money for the next day. The child or anyone else has the right to say they are tired and walk to sit like another poster mentioned, but complaints or whiny mean the child has to five you $1back for each complaint or whine. Any money left over at the end of the day becomes spending money for the next day and if they complain or whine more than 10 times in one day, they are already eating into the money for the NEXT day.

We push around an 80 pound child in a wheelchair because she can't walk. I can tell you that takes a lot more out of us than when we have been on trips without her. You don't want to tire yourself out if you can help it.

please don't flame me, but instead of looking for a stroller for a child who is that old, why not rent a wheel chair. You can sit in it too then if you get tired?

My children will be 8 and turning 6 two days after we return home and they will not be riding in a stroller. When they are too tired to walk or start complaining, we will head back to the resort. By the end of the day, I'm tired too - I'm not going to be pushing arould a stroller with over 130 lbs. in it (my son is 78 lbs now, dd is 53 lbs). Sorry, just not gonna happen.
