First of all, let me say that I feel so bad for everyone who has been affected by all the terrible hurricanes this year. I can't even begin to imagine what it must have been like to have to go through even one hurricane, much less hurricanes back to back.

We had ressies for a hotel in Pensacola Beach for November 6 on our way home and the hotel called a few days ago to say that they were not having any visitors now. I can't find anywhere to stay now. Any suggestions??? I even looked on expedia today and couldn't find anything in Pensacola or Tallahassee. Do you think by November these places will be repaired or is it that they are all booked up by people without homes now or by people who are there helping with cleanup? (I hope that didn't sound uncaring....)
I really don't want to drive straight through- it is 1100 miles and I need my beauty sleep :scared1: Most of our route is on I-10 which I'm afraid probably received a lot of damage.

I doubt things will be back to normal by November. I would widen your area would you could possibly stay or consider flying.

We drive from Texas and usually break it up by staying at the Holiday Inn Express in Breaubridge, La. it is clean and well run.

Safetymom,
We may have to broaden our area. I am way too big a chicken to fly. I wonder how far we would have to go off I-10 so that we are in areas not suffering from hurricane damage.

Lou-Ann,
Where is Breaubridge, LA? I'm not familiar with that name? Picky question and I know beggars can't be choosers, but is the Holiday Inn have exterior or interior hallways- not that it would prevent us from staying? Just curious.

I'm just north of Pensacola.

You wont be able to stay on the beach near Pensacola for quite some time...maybe over past Destin or Panama City is fine, but I'm not certain. They are both a little ways off of I-10, though.

Currently I-10 has big detours, but I'm not sure when those will be changed.

I'm not much help to you!lol

Good luck with your travel plans!

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in Milton, Fl. It's probably too close to I-10, but maybe worth checking into. It has interior corridors and a fair breakfast buffet.

We have a reservation at Tallahassee Holiday Inn North if you do a seach of Holiday Inns you should find it.

Also if you go to Slidell LA it is not much further and they have hotels there to look at. Hope it helps.

We love St George Island off the coast of Apalachicola. Mostly rental house and one or two motels. Do a search as rentals are only available through realty companies. Very quiet and laid back and not very commercial.

Hi TexasErin,

I am also going to the World in November. As for stopping someplace along the way, I would bypass most of FL and AL during that time. A friend of mine just attempted to locate a room in the Pensacola, FL/Mobile, AL region 2 weeks ago and stated that they could not locate any rooms as most of what is still left there was taken by emergency workers, insurance workers, construction people, etc.

As for the stopping point, you may want to consider the Biloxi - Gulfport, MS regions, Slidell, LA or even New Orleans, LA (these are all stops about the 10 to 12 hr drive mark). Have fun on your vacation.
