I'm in a pinch and need quick advice! We are driving up from South Florida on Sunday to have lunch with some friends who are staying at AOA for their Disney trip. They want to have lunch at Rainforest Cafe in Downtown Disney, but I'm wondering if this is such a great idea. The whole point of us driving up is to visit with them and it's been years since we've seen other, so I need to know if it going to be so loud that we won't be able to hear each other over the noise. I keep reading that it's super loud in there. It's 4 adults and 2 preteen girls, if that makes a difference.

Since it's their first trip, and they really don't know anything about Disney, they won't be upset if I need to change the reservations, and I've already checked online and see that I've got several other options through Disney Dining. Give me some quick opinions, please.

I didn't think it was terribly loud at all and we had conversations with no problem

We were able to converse. I can't say that we really thought about the noise level. I guess it can be a bit noisy with the jungle sounds and all, but we really didn't think about it. Let's just say that there would be quieter places to eat. It's an atmosphere geared towards dining entertainment.

Ask for a quiet area. There are several parts of the restaurant that are calmer.

Our Ratings of Rain Forest & T-Rex: (rev 5/5/2015)
. . . food price value: C
. . . food quality: B
. . . food quantity per serving: B
. . . food prep speed: B
. . . food selection: C
. . . seating quantity: B
. . . seating comfort: D
. . . eatery atmosphere: A
. . . eatery convenience: C
. . . staff friendliness: B
. . . staff attentiveness: A
. . . character interaction: B (animatronic)
.
NOTE1: The large portions are pretty much commiserate with the large price. One
is paying a premium for the atmosphere of Rain Forest or T-Rex. The environment and
animatronic are clever and amuse most kids, as well as many adults. The Chocolate
Volcano dessert at Rainforest and Chocolate Extinction dessert at T-Rex are truly
adventures. For the high price, many people expect far better food/service and are
disappointed. We think the food and service are above average, plus we enjoy the
theming and theatrics. We don't actually eat meals there often, but prefer to go
for drinks in the bars and have an order of the plentiful munchies.
.
NOTE2: Make sure they take a Disney bus to DTD. The parking and traffic flow are HORRID.
