Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving.

I need suggestions.

At the beginning of the month my husband tore his rotator cuff (he streched one morning and has been in pain since).

He is on pain medication and is in therapy but he has had little relief with the pain. He normally tolerates pain very well and keeps it to himself so it must be really bad.

He can't sleep. He tries an ice pack, heat pad, raises his head with extra pillows - gets temporary relief - falls asleep for an hour - and is awake again.

Any and all suggestions would be appreciated. - He can't take any more medication or sleep aids by mouth because he is on heart and diabetes medication.

Thanks, Betty Anne

I'm sorry, I wish I could help. I would have recommended alternating heat and ice but it seems you've done that.

Try some pixie dust :D

Best wishes for his quick recovery and for some immediate pain relief.

Try using just the ice and not the heat. I didn't have a tear but when my shoulder was in bad shape I used only the ice. The heat can increase circulation to an area and make it throb.

I pray he feels better.

I don't have any pain relieve ideas but how about a prayer and good thoughts sent his way....Oh, I've had times when I've been in agonly and have recieve no relief.....Poor guy.........

A couple of years ago I had a shoulder injury; I thought I tore my rotator cuff, but I just badly stretched it. (I was swinging on a swingset at the beach and the chain to the swing broke-it was badly rusted- and I flew off and landed on my right shoulder). It threw my whole back out of whack and I also did physical therapy. But I was in such agony, I finally decided to go to a chiropractor and massage therapist. The chiropractor (who was awesome- used to be an emergency room nurse for 20 years, so I didn't feel that he totally dissed hostipal treatment) worked miracles- he didn't really do anything to my shoulder per se, but all of the muscle groups and my spine that supported my shoulder were out of alignment because of the initial injury and the way I was holding my shoulder while injured. After several sessions with him and once with the massage therapist, I was probably 90% better- that combined with the physical therapy really, really helped me. Good luck to your husband.

Thanks to all of you for your kinds thoughts, prayers and suggestions.

I think the Chriopractor and Message Therapist are great suggestions and you can never have enough prayers being said for you.

Thanks again.

Be sure he is checking his blood sugar levels on a regular basis. Pain can cause blood sugars to rise significantly.

I think he needs to talk to his doctor and let him know the extent of the pain.

Has he tried putting a small pillow under his shoulder to support it? What about some type of immobilizer to wear at night to keep the shoulder from pulling?

I also agree with the chiropractor and massage. I also had an injury that did not improve with traditional therapy. I was much better in less than a week after the chiropractor.
