To make a long story short I bought my sister an expensive cat carrier for Christmas as of today the kitten may have to be put to sleep. My parents bought her everything on her list. I don't know what to do now. She is the type that would get another kitten right away but I don't want to give her a carrier with no cat.

I would return the cat carrier and ask your parents to pay them for one of the things that they bought.

If you're absolutely sure she would want another cat immediately, maybe you could rescue a kitten from the pound and give it to her with the carrier.

I just feel bad because she has had him for about 4 months and has spent around $500 on him for medical stuff. The pet rescue she got him from has been less then helpful.

Awww, that is so sad. What is wrong with him?

Today he is drooling, hard stomach, eyes glazed over, and he won't eat or drink. In the past he has had a respitory infection, ear mites, and something with his bowels. THe poor little guy has been through so much.

Some of the humane societies have gift certificates that you can give someone, so they can pick out a pet at a later date (since Christmas is frequently so hectic for everyone). If they don't have one pre-made, they'd probably be happy to make one for you. That might be a nice addition to the cat carrier (along with a nice card about having everything for when she's ready to pick out a new baby).

I'm really sorry she's been through so much. We had to have one of our dogs put down last year just before Christmas, and it's a bad time of year to go through all of this (although there's really no good time). Don't let her experience discourage you. Most of the time pet rescues go well. All of mine are abandoned animals (12 cats and 4 dogs), and they've worked out great.

Good luck!
