I remember going to World Showcase for the 1st time when I was 13 = I did NOT like it at all! In fact my 1st impression was so negative I didn't like it for yrs and yrs.

Well, I'm taking my DS6 in Sept/Oct and DO NOT want him to feel the same way. I'm hoping to make it exciting and need help. Other than the masks the kids can make any other ideas/???? Plus his school/principle are very very strict concerning vacation time during school days that I was hoping to create a "mini project" that my son could show the class to help ease the tension from the school.

Any suggestions or ideas are appreciated! THANKS

Patty

They sell a passport with stickers that you take to the different countries to get stamped by the cast members. He could ask the person who stamps it to tell him a little about where they come from for his "mini project". Or he could do something about the different types of food in the different countries.

Have him find out how to say hello & goodbye for each of the countries. Our Kids 5, 7, 9 love the world showcase. And 13 is very different form 6 so I think you will be ok.

One of the things that we did some years ago, was to read stories, etc, about all the different countries.......so when we toured, we were looking for "somethign" in each lcountries area from what we had read..........we have also done a dessert tour around the "world" too........

Our kids are 8 and 12 and World Showcase is their favorite.....we do whatever park we have planned iin the daytime and WS almost every night.......

good luck.

If you do not want to spend that much as far as a dessert (but I really do like that idea & we have done some but not all) from each country, you can have him buy a small piece of candy from each country as his treat & for the educational portion, be sure to have his pic taken with one CM from each country with maybe their flag in the background. Then when you get home, you can print out a map of the countries, put them on poster board along with the pic's & label them... :teacher: (maybe he can even save the empty candy wrapper & put them on too...since he is only 6, he may enjoy telling the class about the candy as opposed to the flag (but teacher & principal will like the flags)

My 3 DSs we 4, 8 & 9 last year when we went. We got the Passport, plus made masks at each KidCot stop. They get a mask on a stick at the first country you stop in. Each showcase has a special station for this--sometimes it's fun trying to find it! They can color it, and the CM from each country will attach a hanging item to it, and stamp it. (Cut out rocking horse from America, hot air balloon from France..) THey'll tell you the significance of it for their country. The Passport--yes, there are stickers that the child puts in. The CM in each country wrote a message (and the boy's names) in their native language to my sons, plus stamped it.

How about the maze garden? And the butterfly garden? Never been yet planning to find these so-called hidden treasures on our next trip!

As far as a "mini-project" for school-all the ideas above are great! We went to Mexico, Jamaica and Grand Cayman a few months ago and our son adn his teacher made his "adventure" a mini-project for the classroom. The kids all loved it-the teacher loved it, too! Taught about the different foods, languages and so on! Which you can do from going to World Showcase! If you approach it the right way, the teachers and staff will love the input!

Can someone please tell me where to find the maze and butterfly garden and any details about them?
Thank you
Suzy V.

As I said, I have never been to either yet planning to find both on our next trip. I got the ideas-and lots others-from www.themouseforless.com
The website has little pocket guides you can print out to find "hidden gems" in all of the parks. Just printed them out today-thought it was a great idea, especially for down-time or for waiting-in-line-times!

6 days and we're off to Disney! :moped: :moped: :moped:
