We are driving to Disney in June from the Columbus, Ohio area (we have always flown down in the past so this is our first time driving). I am trying to plan on where we will stay on the drive down. We would like to only have 4-5 hrs drive on the 2nd day from the hotel to the Boardwalk.

So, does anyone have advice on which route to take from Columbus and which exit/area to reserve a hotel at on the way down? Any tips, advice, etc. would be greatly appreciated!

Mapquest also shows 2 routes- I95 to I4 or I75. Which of these is better?

Thanks for all the help in advance. :)

We frequently drive... and sometimes meet up with my brother who drives down from Cleveland. I don't know the route they take further north, but once we all hit Florida, we meet up the last pre-Disney night in Lake City. This is close to where I-10 meets up with I-75... and we take I-75 down.

I would prefer 95 to skip Atlanta. Running 77 down to 95 the only real traffic mess can be Charlotte but that's pretty easy to avoid. I just ran a mapquest and they recommend going down 33 to Lancaster, Athens, etc and hitting 77 down in WV. While I could likely make the trip quicker that direction (plus I know the roads) I wouldn't recommend it. Just go 70 east over to 77. If anyone in your car even remotely gets car-sick they'll puke within an hour going those back roads. Plus there's a couple stretches of territory pulled straight out of Deliverance.

4-5 hours out would put you in Savannah. I've stayed there a few times in my driving days...pick a Hampton at an exit and be done with it.

We drive from SE Ohio and we go I-77 to I-26 to I-95. It takes us about 14-15 hours. If you want to stop 4-5 hours from WDW, that would be around Savannah or so. The one time we didn't drive straight through, we stopped at Brunswick. FWIW, we have friends who have relatives in central FL, and when they drove home over Christmas, they came I-75 due to weather and they said they preferred I-95.

Thanks everyone! :thumbsup2 It looks like I-95 it is and we will look for a hotel in Savannah.

The Pooler exit outside of Savannah has plenty of places to stay...also we have driven another hour south to the Brunswick exit and it would also be a great place to stop...
