Hi I forgot to get a cake for a impromtu party for my son and the only cake left that was vanilla was one with flowers on it. And in orange and red to boot. How can I turn this flowery cake into a tougher boy cake? Help!

how old is your son? If he is young enough, you could carefully lift off the flowers, and put red and orange (brand new) matchbox cars where the flowers had been .

He will be turning 10 and is into army men, building trails, snakes and frogs, ect.

Assuming this is a grocery store typical rectangular cake with flowers in one of the corners, I would try this...

Take a butter knife, small spatula or spreader and gently scrape the flowers from the top of the cake. If you chill the cake first, the flowers may come off easier.

You may have some flower residue left in the area, so you will need to cover it with something. Depending on your son's age, you could use matchbox cars or any other small toy he is interested in.

For an older son or if you have a small cake, try spreading some extra frosting on top and sprinkle the top with mini M&Ms. This would tie into the probably orange/red trim frosting around the bottom.

I may can give you other ideas if you can give me more info on the cake and your son's age.

Whaat if you smear the flowers around the cake making it kind of tye-dye. You could add toys or sprinkles or something if you wanted.

Crumble oreo cookies all over the top of it. Since you'll have patches of color can you make it look like a paint ball theme?

Put toy frogs and snakes around all the flowers.

Lift off the flowers and pipe in some flames! Please post a pic to show us your new, improvised cake!

I'd go with the flames too....just drag a butter knife through the border icing and take off the roses. Then put some fake snakes on top of it and use some pirouette cookies, and crumbled oreos to make a fake 'bon fire' in the center of the cake....sort of like a camping/building trails/snakes outdoors kind of cake. Good luck :)

Scrap off flowers, sprinkle finely crushed oreos or use a strainer to shake powdered cocoa over the entire top of the cake to make the white icing look like dirt. then spread around gummy worms and other candies. Cut out spearmint gum into zig zag shapes to make grass or trees. Add army men hiding behind the grass.

I would do the flames thing or put some matchbox cars on it with them destroying the flowerbeds!!

Decorate with color coordinated gummies attached where flowers used to be.

I would leave it as it is but add gummy worms and gummy frogs to the decor.

Hey everyone. I scrapped off a large flower from each corner and put a full size peppermint patty on it and frost tipped the number 10 for his age. I then frost tipped around it to make it stand out with a shade deeper of red. Then I placed m&ms around the outside corners too. It took away from the frilly flowers:goodvibes
