Ok, I start nursing school in 2 weeks and I need a comfortable pair of nursing shoes that aren't too expensive. Anyone have any suggestions? They can't be clogs, or have any writing on them whatsoever, and they have to be white. I have a high arch and up until I started wearing Crocs to work I always had a hard time finding comfortable shoes. My feet would be killing me at the end of the night but unfortunately we can't wear Crocs!:sad2: All of the uniform stores around here don't have much of a selection so I'm going to have to order online which means I need to do this soon so I'm not paying outrageous shipping charges to get them in time. I would really appreciate any suggestions..thanks!:flower3:

I have nothing to contribute to help you out. But I wanted to thank you for the chuckle. I saw the title of your post and thought "I can understand needing a nursing bra...but what are nursing shoes:confused3 ". Breastfeeding two kids must have had a bigger impact on me than I realized because it never occurred to me that you are in school to become a nurse :rotfl2:

Thanks for training to become a nurse! Good nurses make all the difference when you have a sick loved one.

Try SAS. They are very comfortable and come in all white.

That was great! I needed a good laugh! :rotfl:

Luckily we can wear Crocs...as long as they have no holes. I have the Bistro in white and they have the non-skid bottom.

Walmart carries a Dr. Scholl nursing shoe. I wear just the regular Dr Scholl dress shoe to work and love them. They are so cushiony.

:goodvibesCongratulations on your choice of a nursing career. I am in my fifteenth year as a nurse and still love it! I always order my nursing shoes from Shoebuy.com. They carry the cherokee footwear that used to be called "rockers". They have great arch support and my feet are never tired at the end of the day. I'm not sure what your price range is, but they run $40 -$60. Here is the link:

They have styles with a full back, not just clogs. I have tried the styles labeled "Robin" and "Harmony" lately, and liked them both, but I thought "Harmony" had a bit too high of a heel. Shoebuy always has free shipping and I almost always can find a good coupon at retailmenot.com. If you sign up at ebates or mr. rebates you can get extra later in a rebate, too.

You can get 20% off with this coupon code: EMBLTS09

Shoebuy's shipping is a little slow, usually a week, you might want to order soon.
Good luck in all you do! :goodvibes

Just wanted to say congratulations!! I used to wear Dr. Scholls until I discovered crocs several years ago.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions and well wishes!:wizard:

Thanks Joyful3Heart for the coupon code also...I was actually looking at the Harmony shoes but wondered how comfortable they were. :flower3:

No clogs? Never mind. My stepmom wears clogs and swears by them...Dansko I think. She scoffs at Crocs (I do not).

But since you can't wear clogs, nevermind.

Great minds think alike!! As a pregnant mom who's determined to breastfeed, I've been looking into nursing stools, pillows, and all that stuff. I only clicked on this because I thought "Great, nursing shoes, something else I need..."

:confused3

Off topic!!!!

All those things aside, the absolute BEST thing you can do is to surround yourself with knowledgeable people. I don't mean your OB/midwife, I mean people that you can call at any time of the day or night. Start going to La Leche League meetings NOW (they love pregnant women!), make friends, get phone numbers. Do NOT let people who haven't nursed give you info (unless, like I was, they themselves were nursed a good long time and have siblings who nursed a good long time, and knew more as a child about nursing than many American women do by the time they have newborns!), ONLY let people who KNOW give you info. Get your network of friends and others NOW.

Boppy or My Brest Friend, pillow or just holding the baby with your arms (that's what I had to do, my gosh my arms were STRONG!), nursing stool or just sit cross legged, nursing bras and shirts or just soft cup and a tank top under your shirt (the latter is what I did, nursing bras and shirts caused me to flash b/c they go the opposite way to put yourself back together)....all those are extras. What's important is the people you have around you.

Have fun!!!!!!!

Dansko clogs is all I wear, I have several styles open back and closed ........all comfy, I swear by them, BUT..........they are pricey........:(
but I think well worth it.
why can't you wear clogs?

I swear by Dansko, too...not only for my feet, but I have no pain in my ankles, knees, hips or back even after long days on concrete floors. Are you not allowed to wear open back clogs? or just clogs in general? I work at a restaurant, and we cannot wear open back (or toe, sandals, etc.), but I don't see why they would have a problem with a closed back clog. Danskos are (in my opinion) pricey, but worth every penny. A pair lasts me for about a year (10-12 hours days, 6 days a week, usually). Also, you can sometimes find "seconds" on their website. It's hit or miss though, and in my line of work, they are scuffed up the first time I wear them anyway. Hope that helps!

Check out FootSmart.com. They have a big selection and you can search by "condition", such as high arches. I saw several pairs of "nursing" shoes on there, but I don't have a specific recommendation. I never found a pair of shoes that kept my feet from hurting during the time I worked in a hospital.

There is another website called AllHeart that has a good selection too. Do you have a Scrubs and More shop near you? They have shoes there you could try on and see what you like style-wise and comfort wise. Maybe you can find the style you like and then shop around for the best deal.

Good luck in finding shoes and in your schooling! :)

My mom swears by Rykas. She has been a NICU nurse for 25 years and works 12 hr shifts. These are the only shoes she will wear!

When I began nursing school, I bought a pair of Easy Spirit but once I started working I went to a specialized foot place called Pro Foot. They make you walk in the shoes and they can help you find the best shoe. I highly recommend them that way you can find the right shoe because you will find comfort is the name of the game. Good Luck!! I love being a nurse and it is a rewarding career.

Very timely thread. I'm about to start my last year of nursing school and made the mistake of buying the WORST shoes last year! I don't even know the brand.. some no-name brand I found at JC Penney that fit the criteria of all white, no writing, no clogs, no holes.
I need some more comfortable shoes because by the end of each clinical last year, my feet were killing me.

I have worn sneakers most of my career and never had a issue. I work in a busy er and always on my feet.. on that note.. our hospital is changing our uniform policy and making nurses wear either black or white closed shoes only.. Im going to the walking store to check some out.. Im not pleased at all..
