My parents and in-laws want to have a nice sit-down meal the first night we arrive (I'll be on my own with my boys until husband arrives later). We will all be staying at the Yacht Club and my father doesn't want to do a lot of bus exchanges, etc., and doesn't want to "waste" entrance to the parks just for dinner.

I was going to make PS at Yachtsman Steakhouse but I read on this board that some people didn't think it was up to par recently. Can anyone give me some possible suggestions on your experiences? Or, if you have any good things to share about Yachtsman, please do so. This will probably be the only meal the "oldies" have on their own so I hope it can be special for them.

Thanks so much.

I wouldn't go the YSH, I'd walk over to Shula's at the Dolphin if you want great steak. It's pricey but no more pricey then YSH if you do it right. Our last trip to YSH, the service was mediocre and the food not up to par of a previous visit and it's not in the same class as Shula's.

I agree. Shula's is the place for a wonderful steak dinner (they also serve fish and chicken). Remember that the side dishes are huge and should be shared.

Another great choice and just a 5-minute walk around the lagoon on the Boardwalk is the Flying Fish. Fantastic seafood and a great atmosphere. Or if it's Italian you want try Palio at the Swan.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for all your input. Shula's is definitely one of the top choices for my parents. My dad is definitely a steak kind of guy and my mom just wants to make him happy. They were disappointed at first when I told them the negative comments on YSH and definitely did not want to start their vacation out with a maybe bummer meal.

Well how about an opposing viewpoint- I would choose YSH over Shula's everytime. We have been eating at YSH every trip for the last 10-11 years (about 4 trips per year). I have never had a bad meal at YSH. The service has sometimes been not as good as it could be- but it is never bad- and it has certainly never been so bad as to prevent me from returning. On our visit to Shula's I found our servers to be somewhat lacking. The objective seemed to be "get these people in here, get their order, & get them out". I have never felt that way at YSH. I also speak with a little background from other Shula's locations in South FL. I have eaten at the original Shula's in Miami Lakes as well as the loaction in West Palm, both of these were great and very enjoyable dining experiences. Can't say the same for Shula's. In my opinion the YSH is every bit in the "same class" as Shula's!

uncle al - thank you for your comments! I will pass them along. I think choosing this particular day of dining is definitely the one causing the most discussion and thought. I've printed out all the menus of what I think my parents may like. It was all so easy when they first chose YSH. Maybe they should just stick to that place, but then, again...who knows.

I am the one worrying more as I am the primary planner and want everyone to have a good time. I almost feel it reflects on me whatever they choose.

I really appreciate everyone's comments very much.
