I noticed early this week that the house kinda smelled like cat pee so I scooped the box and got onto Dh about not doing it daily like he's supposed to. He said he is doing it daily. The house still smelled and it kept getting stronger. A couple of days ago, I figure out that for some reason, Simon is going into Petey's kennel and peeing all over the bedding. :sad2:

I took the bedding out and threw it out in the dumpster. I scrubbed the whole thing out and sprayed every inch with Petzyme. That was Tues and today it STILL smells in here. What more can I do??? We can't find any other source for the smell so I'm stumped. HELP!

if the only place was in an enclosed pen, you tossed the bedding and scrubbed the cage you are probably fine. Did you scrub the wall and floor around the pen?
Have an honest friend over to see if they smell it. Sometimes a smell like that just gets stuck in our noses and we swear we still smell it when it's gone.
I don't change my litter every day and my house doesn't smell like cat pee.
Can you put the pen outside for a day or two? Maybe if you air it really well that might help. Also maybe you could move the pen to another spot and put the litter pan where the pen was.

Do you have a blacklight? Pee glows in the dark :p so you can walk around with the regular lights off and the blacklight on to see where else he might have left you a "present". Then I would use Nature's Miracle to get rid of the smell.

I really like Simple Solution but it needs to saturate the affected area and you need to allow time for it to dry. You can get it at PetCo or any other pet store.

In our experience those urine removal products you buy at the pet store don't work. DH bought a urine removal recipe on ebay. They email you the recipe. You just use common household products. It's only $4.00 This worked great!!! We later used it on my son's mattress ( he had an accident) It worked great again!

Share the recipe! ;)

We have had good luck with using Nature's Miracle. Works great and so far has not harmed any surface we have used it on. It is good for pet accidents as well as for the kiddy ones! Also works great when the kids get a stomach bug...

I agree with the other posters about Natures Miracle. It's been great in our household with two pups.

I heard white vinegar...but then you would have that smell...I guess you would have to dilute it and then rinse really good. Try a Google search...I am the Google Queen!

Good Luck!

Try this website if you get really stumped. It helped with my doggie problem. (Who knew a dog could hit 3 feet up the wall?)

:rotfl: I got a laugh just out of the name!

The kennel is one of those wire type open ones with a removable bottom pan. The kennel itself smells fine now but here are certain spots near where the kennel is that it "hits" you so it's possible he's peed on the floor and it had time to dry while we were gone. We have hardwood parquet floors so sometimes dried spills and such are hard to see. Are urine removal products safe for hardwood floors? I'm thinking of just mixing some up in a bucket and mopping the entire kitchen, dining room and hall with it.

ETA: Why would a grown cat who loves his canine brother and doesn't seem to be under any stress and is physically perfect suddenly start peeing on his brothers stuff??? :confused3

Nature's Miracle is safe for hardwood floors as well as fabric, carpet, etc. We have literally used it on nearly all surfaces (including walls) of the house!

The one good thing about Nature's Miracle is that it removes any smell from the accident, which reduces the likelihood that the dog or cat will start to consider that area their potty zone.

This is the only product we have had success with, so I cannot speak about anything else. Once we found this works, we didn't try any others!

I have the same question about my idiot cat who is an "only kitty." She has no reason to be stressed or freaked, but she will purposely not use her box (I know it's on purpose b/c sometimes she does use the box). :confused3 Needless to say, this thread caught my attention.

Is the cat neutered? If not, that would be why. Beyond that, could be he is just marking his territory. Our two are getting neutered/spayed next week and the male has started marking around the house... cannot wait for that to stop!

Otherwise, I would talk to your vet and maybe have him checked. Could be he has kidney stones or an infection or the like. That can also cause odd urination.

Don't get too excited about it stopping when they are neutered!
Our 2 cats have been neutered for years and for some odd reason they spray. Don't know if it is because they are both males or because they see neighborhood cats out the windows---all I know is if they weren't the kids cats they would have been gone a long time ago!
The smell.....YUCK!

Thankfully he has only done it a few times, mostly on the cushin of one chair. He walks over, sits on it and pees. We moved it out onto the porch and so far he has not done it again, at least I have not smelled it anywhere else.

Has anyone tried Urine-Off? Does it work? I did a google search and this is one of the products that came up. It looks promising, but you know how believable the promises can be.

Yes, Simon was neutered about a year ago. I thought he was getting revenge on Dh for not cleaning his box regularly but he insists that he is. Simon was just at the vet last week for a well kitty checkup and he's practically perfect in every way except for being a fat boy.

I picked up some Nature's Miracle and I'm going to mop the whole floor with it and see if that helps. I also am keeping the kennel door closed for now. Petey doesn't use it unless I'm in the kitchen and he wants to watch. Then he goes in and curls up and keeps an eye out for falling food :rotfl:

I'll let you know if it works
