Looking to try something new with our kiddos this trip.... The Mickey's Backyard BBQ I need some help with.

We are at AK park that day. AM I correct that when we leave we can just take the bus to Fort Wilderness for the bbq at 6:30 pm. After the bbq do we just take the bus back to the TTA and then back to our resort which is POP !

Anyone been to the bbq and have comments? We have 6yr twins and I think they will love it. This will be there 5th trip so something new would be great to try out??

Looking forward to the responses too....we're thinking about trying this or HDDR on our next visit. The BBQ looks like a lot of fun!

Yes, you can take the bus from AK to Fort Wilderness but allow a little extra time as Fort Wilderness is huge and has its own internal bus system that you may or may not need to use depending on which bus stop you land at in FW. When your finished with the BBQ, I'd walk right over to the boat dock and take the boat to MK and then the bus to Pop. I think that would be a lot faster and easier than trying to get a bus back to AK.

Depending on when you go, you might consider staying for the Campfire and/ or movie at FW. Your kids are the perfect age to really enjoy this. Then take the boat back to MK during the fireworks to avoid the rush and get a chance to see the fireworks while approaching MK on the water.

Your transportation option is how you described it except you can also hop the boat to MK and take bus to POP there, probably faster. You need to allow extra time since your doing a lot of bus transferring.

We took my 4YO DS to the BYBBQ a year ago, and honestly it's pretty much like going to a corporate family day BBQ with a band and Disney characters and I was not impressed at all. In fact I thought it was pretty chaotic and not very well organized. When the characters showed up it was a bum rush to get too them and my DS wound up getting trampled by bigger kids....The food was OK, so for my money hoop-dee-doo is a much better time more like a Disney experiance and a much better entertainment value even though the food is on par with BYBBQ.

You won't be able to go to TTC, resort buses do not run there. You would have to bus from FW to another park or to Downtown Disney. If the boat to MK is running (it should be - I don't know what time the BBQ is but I dont' think it's at night), take it to MK and catch the Pop bus there. I do not know if FW runs a bus to MK - if they do you also have that option but you would need to take a bus internally to the main bus depot at FW.

We did BBQ back in 07 and it was ok. Very crowded and a lot of pushing. Did you ever do Hoop Dee Doo? We did it in Aug 09 and we loved it. My boys 11 and 7 loved it. It was so funny and the food was great. It's right next to BBQ. We also took the bus to FW and had no problems. Enjoy.

ugh, I wasn't able to get the Thurs show so now we have the Sat show booked. So we won't be coming from the AK park but likely another park.

Can I assume I will be able to get the Fort Wilderness bus from any of the parks? Fort Wilderness is just the campground right? Wilderness Lodge is the actual resort? Never stayed out that way before so really unfamiliar with it.

As to the other comments, I tried for HoopDD but it is booked up. I will keep trying though. There are characters here as well?

No characters at HDDR. It is a dinner show along the lines of an old west saloon show. Hilarious and well worth it if you get the chance.

And yes, you can catch direct transport from any park to Fort Wilderness, which is separate and distinct from WL. If you will be at MK that day, take the boat. From any other park take the bus. The bus will likely drop you at the Fort Wilderness Outpost Depot, from which you would grab ANY of the three colored internal buses to the Settlement Depot, where you can walk to the BBQ. There are three internal bus routes (Yellow, Purple and Orange) to service the various loops in the campground, and they all run between the Outpost and the Settlement.

And as a PP stated, if your evening allows, stick around for the campfire, sing-along and movie. Chip and Dale greet the guests, and it is a lot of fun.

To get back to POP, you can either boat to MK as previously stated and catch a bus, OR get back to the FW Outpost Depot and bus to DTD, where you can just change buses to POP.

There are no Disney cartoon characters at HDDR, they have their own troupe of Wild West players. If you want Disney characters you can always go to the nightly campfire and movie - and I don't think there's any extra charge for that.
