Ok long story short we rented our DP's and one of the 2 people we rented to backed out. I have them listed on the rent board but there is so many of them out there I fear due to the restrictions with them that they won't get rented. So we are trying to think of other options so they do not get wasted. We can not get back to Disney by Oct. We've looked into it and its just not possible. Our other option is RCI but we only have 145 DP's and our regular points that are not tied to a reservation are banked until Dec.

So my first question is can I get points transfered from another member and use them with my dps to use in RCI?

DH and I and another couple are planning on going to Vegas in March would 160DVC points even be enough for a nightly exchamge for 4 nights in a 2 bedroom in Vegas?

Can I even ask abut the points and such wihtout banking anything into RCI?

TIA
Vicki

yea think you can definitely ask about the points requirement for Las vegas

here the point chart for nightly exchanges

http://advc.disney.go.com/media/dvc.../2009PointsChart_RCINightlyWeeklyExchange.pdf

do you have 2010 points besides your banked 2009 - if so you can definitely borrow them.

but since you are going for a reservation in 2010 - think you won't have a problem.

you definitely need to ask MS which season March is for Las Vegas think it is High season but not sure.

thank you so much for the info. I am going to look into the Vegas resorts more and see if we really like them. Then I guess we need to see about a possible transfer or if we have to we will borrow 2010 points I have all of them still. Or I can just convince DH for a small add on. LOL

another quick question for those that know. When I look on the RCI site through DVC it says check in on Sun or Friday saturday are those the only days you can check in if you do a nightly stay? Or is that for a weekly exchange?

thanks again.

Getting 4 weekday nights at LV may be difficult which is likely all you could get with 145 DP. It also tends to happen late since a lot of that inventory is the Hilton Resorts. The two most available on points are really somewhat out of town (Cliff's & Grandview). Also, you can't WL for shorter stays. I think you'd be better putting 15 regular points with it and doing a deposit first with RCI. This will allow you to search for a 1 BR any season with RCI. Or you could offer the points as a direct exchange for someone who owns at LV or elsewhere.

I know I actually will need 174 pts for the dates we are looking to stay, thanks so a previous poster. Also LV is always high season so it doesn't really matter since no other resorts for RCI are appealing or really possible for us to do. So if its going to be difficult then I will just try and rent the points. I don't need to use the points in LV I can call our casino host in Atlantic City and get either a great deal or comped rooms in Vegas but that would leave the people we are staying with on their own. I am more frustrated with the fact that I thought the points were rented and now I feel like I am scrambling not to waste them.

Did DVC say they were high all year around or are you assuming so due to it being red time all year? Overall, LV is so easy to get that it probably should be MID season most of the year. If you don't rent them you might consider depositing later for 160 points. Just make sure what is deposited is more than 60 day out so you get the full benefit.

So Dean do you think it would be hard to get LV or easy? Your first post said hard but then you said it was so easy. What do you mean by 60 days. I am going to give my points a few more weeks. If they are not rented then I am going to do the deposit into RCI. I am just so glad that we will never have to rent our points again because this is insane.

Easy to get for a week. My reference to hard was assuming you only wanted the 4 weekdays that you could get for only your DP combined with your limited time of use. That limits your resorts and availability dramatically. Even then you may be successful if you're flexible otherwise. There is some availability now that may work for you, esp if you'll consider the two somewhat out of town resorts of Grandview and Cliff's at Peace Canyon. I did not cross reference the DVC RCI list but I know at least some of the resorts I see availability at are on the DVC list.

IF you deposit a week that is short term, actually 45 days with RCI instead of 60 with RCI; you can only look for 45 days out or less.

If you already had them rented, I hope you got non-refundable money for the rental at least.

Even if you get an exchange for a week, you don't have to stay for the whole week do you?

If you really want to use the points for Las Vegas, I'd call MS to see if the week I wanted was available and if so, borrow the 15 points to get the 160. If it wasn't available, I'd still borrow the 15 points and do the deposit first thing. As others have said, you'd then have up to 2 years to find something you could use.

FWIW, I wouldn't use points for Las Vegas if you can get comped rooms or cheap regular hotel rooms there. Especially now, when the LV Casinos seem to be offering free rooms to most everyone who signed up for a player's card. I'd just do the deposit into RCI and then have fun figuring out where to use them in the future.

Sorry the rental didn't work out.

Not at all but it becomes a questionable value using DVC points for part of a week and throwing away the rest. It's much more reasonable when trading for more expensive options using cheaper ones. For example, we have 3 exchanges this year where we will not be staying the entire week. In Oct we have two 1 BR units at VLW arrival on a Friday leaving Tuesday in all likelihood. The cost for the exchange itself in addition to fees was essentially nothing so for under $250 per room we're getting two 1 BR units and will use them for 4 nights each or about $60 a night for a 1 BR. We may allow other family or friends to use them the rest of the time. Then in November, we have a 1 BR at OKW Sun to Sun over Thanksgiving. We'll arrive Wed even though the unit starts Sunday, similar costs but a higher cost time though a lower cost resort. In Feb I got a week for my sister for Gatlinburg at Crown Park. They used it 3 nights and then my cousin came and used it the last 4 nights. Total cost under $150. I could have gotten it for just the 3 nights for a cheaper exchange fee but there was a cleaning fee for less than 7 nights so it made more sense to do it for a full week.

This reminds me that the majority of resorts seem to charge some type of cleaning fee for stays shorter than 7 days. And one correction of previous info I had posted. The Thanksgiving exchange I have is a 1 BR at OKW, I had referred to it as a 2 BR on a couple of threads over the last few months but realized my error going through my confirmations.

Just thought I would update since I am so excited about it.

Well the points never did rent. I actually stopped getting any response at all from them soo. I called member service at my 10 month mark which was sunday and I was able to book a 2 bedroom through RCI in Vegas! We actually had 2 choices the Hilton Grand Vacation club on the strip or the HGVC at the convention center. We chose the convention center mainly because of the monorail. I read the reviews on different sites and due to the monorail being so close it was the prefered one.

It wasn't what we really wanted to do for our first trip to Vegas but our DPs are not wasted and now we can spend more on our vow renewal!

Good. Glad it worked out for you and thanks for letting us know. Have a wonderful trip!
