Most everything was in normal range including total choloesterol at 189. But Tryglycerides were high at 184 [norm 10-150]. And something called VLDL Cholesterol was on the hi side at 37 [norm 8-32]. I'm not even sure what VLDL is? My HDL [good, right?] was 64 -- right in mid range and my LDL was 102 which is on the very low end of the acceptable range. So --what is VLDL?

I guess everything was okay as a whole because the 'If checked, Please see your physician due to your test results' was not checked!;)

I'm not sure what that is. Maybe one of the nurses or docs will look in. :teeth:

Check one of the medical sites on the net. Type it into their search and see what you come up with. Good luck. :D

VLDL = Very low density lipoproteins. This is one of the constituents of total cholesterol along with HDL (high density lipoproteins, or good cholesterol) and LDL (low density lipoproteins or bad cholesterol).

Only the total cholesterol and HDL are actually measured. The LDL and VLDL are calculated using the the cholesterol and triclyceride measurements.

The VLDL is calculated by simply dividing the triglyceride result by 5. So, if your triglyceride level is a little high, your VLDL will be too.

If there hasn't been a strict fast for at least 12 hours before blood is drawn, triclycerides can be easily elevated.

:D I worked for eight years as a medical technologist performing these tests.
