ok so I just bought into BLT for 170 points with a June UY and am thinking about buying a 25 Point contract at the Beach Club to get the 11 month booking window. How does this work? Can I book a reservation at the beach club at 11 months out for more than 25 points? or do I have to transfer my BLT points to my beach club? sorry its a little confusing

You can only use the points at home resort at 11 months... so BCV at BCV and BLT at BLT. In your example, with 25 BCV points, you can bank and borrow to have 75 total to use at 11 months. You can combine the two resorts points, if same UY, at 7 months out. You can also book a split stay at BCV and BLT.

The way I understand the DVC system, the points can still be combined to make a single reservation through a transfer even if they have different UYs. However, the 11-month home resort advantage remains with the points after a transfer. Thus, the 25 BCV points transferred to the BLT account can still book BCV beginning at 11 months, but only 7 months if used for BLT or other resorts.

Transferring makes no difference in gaining home resort booking with points that are not from that resort. Your 170 BLT points get you 11 month bookings at BLT and the 25 BCV points would only get you 25 points at 11 months at BCV.

so I couldn't make a reservation at the Beach Club for 195 points at 11 months then transfer my 170 BLT points to My BCV at 7 months? I thought you could make a reservation without points in your acct as long as they are there at check in

Nope.

You would only own 25 BCV points to make a reservation there at 11 months. With banking and borrowing that could be a maximum total of 75 points.

The points have to be available for the time you want to make the reservation but when you make that reservation the points are allocated to it at that time. They are not used of course until you take the trip but they are allocated from the time you reserve.

Ok, Doesn't look like it's smart then to buy a small contract at a different resort. Thanks for your knowledge!

It can make sense if you plan on using a small contract for specific purposes, especially at resorts that do not require a lot of points a night. For example, if you bank and borrow a 25-point BCV contract, you will have 75 points to use, which can get you 4-5 nights in a studio depending on the season.

Some people do it when, for example, they have a plan to use it maybe for a weekend trip every other year or so. But if you want to plan longer trips and have the home resort booking you do have to buy a larger contract. Otherwise adding on at your home resort if you are in need of a few more points is often the best choice.

I have 3 homes. My smallest home is 100 points at BLT. Because I wanted the standard option I bought a small contract there. I only use this contract every couple years for a 1 bedroom standard. I generally will skip a year and bank the 100 points, then the next year I book with the banked, current and maybe some borrowed points = 300 points possible. During the years I'm not using those BLT points, I'm using my ssr and Bwv contract points. I use my Bwv points for the 11 month window for my yearly October trips to book my standard rooms.

Think about the reason for the 11/7 month rule. It's to get you to buy more home resorts to book at 11 months. If you could use non resort points for a 11 month booking, everyone would only buy the least expensive resort.

If you purchased resale, a 25-pt add-on may still make sense for you if you want the perks (DVC annual pass, TOWL, etc.) that come with it.

True, knew it was too good to be true. Thanks

You will want to try to have your additional buy-ins also have a June use year, otherwise it's a significant amount of work to manage.

We bought 50 points at HHI and we go every third year, using banking and borrowing, to stay 5 nights in a 1BR. We also own 100 points at AKV so when we decide to book something other than AKV, I use up the "lefetover" 15 points from our HHI contract first. Even if we do decide to stay at AKV, it's typically no too hard to use the HHI points at 7 months. Owning a small contract at a different resort is not always a bad idea, if you are able to plan ahead.
