:surfweb:I have a "dumb" question regarding transfer and or trading of points. We are brand new DVC members and will be making our first trip in July:cool1: to AKL villas

We banked a couple of points that we didnt use for our trip this year.

My question is, How does trading / trasfering points work? I understand the renting process, but am clueless about the transfer/trade process.

Thanks for all your expertise in advance:yay:

You really can't trade points with another member since you can only do one transfer per use year either in or out.

When you transfer points to/from another member, those points are deducted from the giving members account and deposited into the receiving members account. Once MS has transfered the points, the member receiving the points has full control of those points.

A transfer is a final transaction and can not be undone.

Only current points from a Use Year may be transferred. If they have been previously banked or borrowed they cannot be transferred.

Members are limited to one transfer (either in or out of your account) per Use Year. You may transfer into or out of the current Use Year and the next Use Year - so it's possible to make (or acept) two transfers the same day - or transfer your points from the 2011 Use Year and accept a transfer into your 2012 Use Year if you would be able to arrange a trade with another member.

And, transferring between members for money is against the rules. A lot of people do it but if it is mentioned during the call with MS, then they will not put the transfer through.

Any points you receive via a transfer do retain their home resort status as well as UY and follow those rules and not your own.

For example, I own a June UY at BLT. I could get a transfer in to my account of Feb 2011 UY BWV points and that would be considered my 2011 UY transfer (one and only).

Those points would be valid for booking stays from Feb 1st, 2011 through January 31st, 2012, unless I bank them into the 2012 UY--then they would be good until January 31st, 2013.

I could use those BWV to book at BWV at the 11 month mark. I could not combine them with my BLT points until the 7 month mark.

What if I owned SSR Sept UY, and tomorrow (in my 2010 UY) I wanted to transfer another member's Oct 2010 BWV points (their current UY.)

Could I, the same day, transfer in another member's Feb 11 UY points? Or could I only transfer in Sept, Oct, & Dec 2011 UY? (Since their 2011 UY would be at the same time or after my own?)

You get one transfer, in or out per UY. So, you can get any 2010 UY points and that would be your 2010 UY transfer. In the same day, you could also get any 2011 UY points, and that would be your 2011 UY transfer.

So, you could get Oct 2010 UY points as well as Feb 2011 UY points in the same day and that would take care of your 2010 & 2011 UY transfer.

Thanks! That's what I thought.
