Help me understand dining discounts

We're just joining DVC, and are trying to figure out whether or not to do DDP. I read, in a thread about discounts, that DVC members get a 10% discount in almost all TS and CS restaurants. Is this accurate? does it apply to character meals? How does this really work? This discount could significantly effect our decision. Thanks in advance for your help.

Sorry, that's not the case. We do get a small discount at a handful of restaurants, but certainly not all, or even most. The discounts change frequently.

Have you looked into the DDE card? Disney Dining Experience? That's available for AP holders and FL residents, and does get you a discount at pretty much all TS restaurants.

The DVC dining discounts have a lot of restrictions. As already said, there aren't a lot of participating restaurants. There are also restrictions that only certain meals have a discount. For example, there are currently only 9 theme park restaurants with a DVC discount. Of these, several of the discounts are only available at lunch time.
