Help me understand AP discounts

We just purchased our first APs. The plan is to use them for the first time in October. As I understand it, we can still get a room discount BUT it seems those discounts are not released very far in advance. I want to be sure to have rooms booked in time for the best FP+ options. So, are AP discounts released in time for that or do I book then hopefully apply an AP discount later? What do you do? Thanks!

Book the room you want now and watch for discounts (others will be released before AP usually) to apply to your existing reservation. In my experience, AP rates have always been released before the 60 day FP+ window. Discounts usually go fast, so check often. I was able to change my most recent reservation from spring to AP discount all online in about 2 minutes. When it works, it's very efficient!

That's what we usually do. We originally booked under a General Public discount for April, but I checked yesterday and the rates are up for AP holders. Saved us another $20 ish and instead we just switched to a different resort for the same cost.
